First edition. A lovely copy of this comic novel -- a copy which has survived far better than the reputation of its author, who has been comprehensively forgotten. COPAC's listing of his work shows him to have been active between 1928 and 1949, and two films were made from his novels: The Compulsory Husband [1930] and The Compulsory Wife [1937]. Apart from that, nothing: Glyder's name has not troubled the scorers in any of the standard reference works.

Christopher, Lord Thomson, was the British military attaché charged with bringing Romania into the First World War alongside the Allies. Bibesco, a belle époque writer and socialite born into the Romanian royal family, met Thomson in 1915, and the two remained close until Thomson's death in the R101 airship disaster in 1930. This typo is repeated on the title page (uncorrected here), but the name is printed correctly at the end of the translator's preface.

A fine copy preserved in a modern binding. 16 b&w heliogravures by Charles 'Herric' Hérouard placed throughout the text. Second edition. French text. No. 1316 of 2225 copies. Lesbian spanking novel from the stable of Jean Fort, the clandestine publisher of mostly sado-masochistic erotica. Fort was active in Paris throughout the period between the two World Wars; this work dates from the very end of his known publishing career. Whether he survived into the 1940s is uncertain, but no book bearing any of his known imprints appeared after 1939. As the title page shows, Fort distributed books bearing the Aux Galants Passe-Temps imprint from 79, Rue De Vaugirard -- the same address from which his better known Collection Des Orties Blanches had been issued a few years before.
