Included are sections on materials and techniques used, marks as well as faked marks, and a chapter on competitors and contemporaries of various European countries with some short bios. The jewellery is stunning and their photos are largely from private collections, the majority of which are previously unpublished. A beautiful book, much in demand and hard to find. Rupert Brooke set out on a year long journey in 1913 for the United States, Canada, and the South Seas, sending the first 13 of these chapters to the Westminster Gazette and the final 2 to the New Statesman, with the intention of eventually writing a book on his travels, which never materialized. Thus this book, published after his death in 1915, of all the letters with only a few minor corrections. The letters are delightful, and one longs for a return to the custom of recording our travel experience with letters and journals.
