Description:
1957. VG. Letter dated 1st January 1957 thanking "the Brigadier" [Brigadier L F E Wieler] for showing him around Traitor's Gate at St Thomas' Tower for research into his planned next book. 'My Dear Brigadier, This is just a line to say how very gratefull (sic) I am to you for having taken me round the Tower yourself last Thursday and for making my visit such a pleasant one. St Thomas' Tower, will I am sure, 'fit the bill' as far as my book is concerned; and I feel now, thanks to you, that I shall be able to make the escape part of my story plausible. I may, after all, call the book 'Traitor's Gate', as the Wallace book was published many years ago and there is no copyright in titles. (Two of my own have been used by other people only last year). I am all against duplication in the ordinary way, but in this case the title would be so sensible. I'll have to think about it. Should you and your wife be coming down into Hampshire at any time, do let me know and come to lunch with us. In the meantime… Read More

Wills & Hepworth, nd (1920s or 1930s) 1920. NF. 217 x 292mm pictorial 'Untearable' card covers staple bound using 3 staples. 8pp with coloured illustrations to 14 popular nursery rhymes. These items are difficult to date but it is pre 1940 and the images suggest it is earlier rather than later. A really lovely example with only a little patchy toning the covers. The binding is firm although the staples are a little rusted as would be expected in a book of this age but there is only a hint of rubbing to the spine tips. This book is in much better condition than is usually found and looks hardly read. An excellent and early and scarce addition to any Ladybird collection.
