Many of the novels first appeared under more narrowly themed collection, but in 1842, Balzac collected them all and wrote an introduction explaining his methods and purpose. The "Human Comedy" was to have the scope of Dante's Divine Comedy, but focused on this life, not the next. Volume VI contains "La Femme De Trente Ans," "La Colonel Chabert," "Pierre Grassou," and "Le Contrat De Mariage." This is the "Edicion Definitive" printed in Belgium for the "Editions Walter Beckers S.A. Collection-Club(R)", and is limited to 2,500. They are wonderfully bound octavos (8"x9 3/4"), with a single column of text, making them a pleasure to read. Each book contains a few illustration.
