Amantine-Lucile-Aurore Dupin was best known by her pseudonym, George Sand and was a French Novelist and memoirist, remembered for her affairs with Frederic Chopin and Alfred de Musset as much as her work. Sand actively supported the February revolution of 1848 as a radical left-wing supporter, but the events of the June Day uprising shattered her Utopian illusions and her work reflected that, returning to the romantic spirit of her earlier work. The title, The Eaglet, stems from a nickname for the younger Napoleon. Published in French. The French poet and dramatist's play was premiered in 1900 by Sarah Bernhardt at her own theatre. 'L'Aiglon' is a play in six acts based on the life of Napoleon II, who was the son of Emperor Napoleon I and his second wife, Empress Marie Louise. The title of the play comes from a nickname for Napoleon II, the French word for "eaglet" (a young eagle).
