Description:
New York: The Modern Library Publishers, [no date, 1930]. Hardcover, red cloth. Good/Dust Jacket condition fair. Complete and unabridged in one volume. Bound by H. Wolff for The Modern Library, 294 pages, #53. Although undated, it has binding #5, red balloon cloth, and a jacket listing 169 books, which place this printing in 1930. Endpapers are soiled/discolored, but the binding is strong and the interior unmarked. 2-tone green typographical dust jacket is stained and spotted with a darkened spine and a loss at the spine top. Unusual early printing, although rather worse for wear. Gautier, 1811-1872, was a French writer who espoused the doctrine of 'art for art's sake.' The novel Mlle. de Maupin was originally published in 1835. Though not indicated, this copy is from the library of T. R. Smith, who was chief editor at Boni & Liveright during the 1920s. More of Smith's Modern Library collection is available.

Description:
New York: Three Rooms Press, 2020. Softcover. Fine. Cover art by Walter Robinson. Introduction dated May 2020. The journal was published during the early months of the global Covid-19 pandemic. 260 pages, color reproductions of dadaist artworks, poetry, other literary contributions. Dadaism is a literary and artistic movement that was founded in Zurich in 1916, in part as a protest and reaction to the destruction of civilized life and thought during World War I. Dadaist works sought to negate traditional values in philosophy and the arts and substituted deliberate madness and chaos for conventional notions of beauty and harmony. Similar later movements include absurdism and surrealism.
