Description:
Adrian Wilson and Joyce Lancaster Wilson:
The Making of the Nuremberg Chronicle
A splendid book in its own right, the Wilsons' book on the Nuremberg Chronicle is a masterpiece. Quoting from the front fold:
This is the first work in English on the entire production of an early illustrated book. The survival of page by page layouts for a book of the incunabula period, as well as the original contracts for its illustration, for its printing and for the allotment of profits and unsold books is unique to the Nuremberg Chronicle of 1493...The Making of the Nuremberg Chronicle... is a landmark in the study of incunabula.
Lavishly illustrated in both color and black/white, this scholarly and very readable book explores the entire process of making one of the most famous early woodblock-illustrated books in the world. The Nuremberg Chronicle appeared in 1493, first as a Latin edition and then in German translation.
The late Adrian Wilson was an internationally prominent book designer working in San… Read More

Description:
Single Manuscript Koran Leaf. 14th century.
India, probably late 14th century CE. This leaf measures approximately 11 3/8 x 8 inches. It is written in Arabic Behari script (sometimes called Herati-Kufic). Behari developed in India in the fourteenth century, it is characterized by the heavy, bold, wide horizontals contrasting with the more delicate verticals. In this mss there is a striking device in the lower corner and the text ends with a Surrah heading.
The edges of the leaf show wear and are thin in places, exhibiting damp-staining. The 13-line text is without damage, as is the marginalia. Overall this is a most attractive, dramatic leaf.

Description:
The Moon
Publication of the Lunar Section of the British Astronomical Association (BAA)Vols 10 No 1 (1961 through Vol 14 No 3. 7x10 inches. Each issue approximately 20 leaves including paper cover.
Issued irregularly. The final volume contains correspondence bemoaning the arguable irrelevance of amateur observations of the moon in the post-Ranger era.
With the exception of Vol 10, No 1 none of the issues are dated. Following Vol 10 No 1 all the issues have a common printed paper cover, undated.
Contained in two black spring binders plus two loose issues.
A very nice run of perhaps the premier 20th century publication of non-professional lunar observations.
Each issue is filed with detailed drawings of different lunar regions with accompanying comments.

Hardcover. Condition: Overall Very Good. Slight damage to top of spine (illustrated) and some rubbing to corners. 3rd Edition. 4to (22.4 x 16.2 cm). Collation: xvi, 213 [1] pp. including half-title. With one chromolithograph and many text line illustrations. Original blue cloth binding with silver embossed image of lunar craters on front board. New York: Scribner & Welford, 1885.
This smaller third edition was produced to make it less expensive than the larger first and second editions, but has the full number of Woodburytype plates. The Woodbury plates are tipped onto heavier paper and there is occasional weakening of the binding as illustrated. Remarkably free of the foxing that is frequently found in The Moon. Despite the obvious expense that went into producing The Moon the bindings of all three editions have not fared well and it is common to… Read More

Description:
Muggletonian Celestial Print. Original Baxter print
System According to the Holy Scriptures Plate 7. The Sun is shown in circular orbit about the Earth. This plate has particularly beautiful, subtle colors.
Drawn by Isaac Frost, Engraved by Chubb, London. Printed in oil by George Baxter.
The Baxter oil print shown here was made in 1846 for the private use of the Muggletonians, an English religious group that denied a sun-centered solar system. The Muggletonians derived their own view of the universe, and these plates are among the rarest of all Baxter prints, having been made for private use and never widely circulated. Part of a larger set (total eleven prints) made for Isaac Frost's Two Systems of Astronomy, this print was never bound into a book but remained as a loose printed sheet. It is surmised that the others in this series were lost in the London Blitz when the Muggletonian archives were largely destroyed. The Baxter process, a complex and costly printing process produced a spectacular image… Read More

The engraved text reads "This diagram will show that if the Earth revolves round the Sun, as the Solar System states, then it will necessarily follow that the Earth will differ in its position with the Sun and any given fixed star on its equator, every day, throughout the whole year. Now consider is it so? If it is not so, then it will make much in favour of the Ho1y… Read More
