London, Malby & Son, 1851. Beautiful and rare terrestrial small table globe made up of 12 hand-coloured engraved gores laid over a plaster sphere, with axis pins and brass meridian circle. Diameter 15 cm (6 inches), height 27 cm, in a tripod mahogany stand. Contemporary hand-coloured, the countries in different colours and the seas in a green shade, it has been cleaned and varnished. Some small spots at both axel pins. Malby & Co. (fl.1843-1860) was a family firm of 19th-century globe-makers in London, founded in the 1840s by Thomas Malby who took over the business of John Addison & Co. The Malby company's title was ""Globe Manufacturers and Publishers to the Society For The Diffusion Of Useful Knowledge"", which was mentioned on each of their cartouches. Abraham Scultetus was a Calvinist. He held to the doctrines of predestination and agreed with the Synod of Dort and their doctrinal deliverances. Scultetus was a Superlapsarian, and taught that from his position as professor at Heidelberg. Scultetus denied the imputation of the active obedience of Christ following the teaching of Piscator. Scultetus was chosen as a representative of the Palatinate for the Synod of Dort. Scultetus was a prominent member of that body. Consisting of 12 paper gores and 2 polar caps, the countries are coloured in different bright colours, the seas in a green shade. Published in 1969 by Intreprinderea Poligrafica at Brasov (Romania) with all names printed in Romanian language. (The globe has been varnished and shows a contrast between the different layers of varnish. Very slight wear at some places.)

Consisting of 12 paper gores, and 2 polar caps, the continents are coloured in different colours and the seas in a blue/green shade. Published between 1928 and 1935 in Paris with all names printed in French. (The gores and polar caps don't line up at some places.)

Amsterdam, Johannes Deur, 1720. A very rare Dutch miniature terrestrial globe with a diameter of 2,5 inches / 6 cm. 2 legends are inscribed and seen. One is in the Pacific Ocean in a small cartouche: tÂ’AMSTERDAM / Excudit / Iohannes Deur. The second is in the Indian Ocean: I. Deur Fecit. There are only three recorded examples of Johannes Deur's pocket globes. Two of these reside in museums. The first is in Leiden: Museum Boerhaave and the second is in Krakow: Museum of the Jagiellonian. The third is held privately and its precise location is unknown. The globe itself comprises 12 beautifully hand coloured copper engraved gores and two polar calottes. An extremely well-coloured and beautiful set of celestial gores, glued to the inside of the original fish-skin case depict the two hemispheres as a wonderful combination of mythical beasts and figures. Consisting of 12 paper gores and 2 polar caps, the continents are coloured in outline with green, the rest of the globe in a light brown shade. Published in 1853 in Paris by Sauret-Andriveau with all names printed in French. (Small wormhole in the Sahara, the globe does not spin and is browned/stained. Some wear and dents, especially on the top polar cap.)

The globe consists of 12 wonderful varnished, engraved hand-coloured gores that stretch from pole to pole. In the original case of black fish-skin with a brass hinge and two brass hook-and-eyelet closures, case with a unique silver plaque which reads: ""B. Bellchamber S. King - Gul's Fox Summum Geographicum Praemium Pares Meruere"". *[This very roughly translates to:] ""B. Bellchamber S. King - Gul's Fox Earns Top Geographical Peers Award"". *Is it too much to suppose and speculate that this silver plaque attached to the outer case is in recognition of a [geographic?] scholastic achievement? The prize awarded to the lucky recipients (B. Bellchamber & S. King?) is this globe? London, Newton & Berry, 1831. Miniature terrestrial globe with a diameter of 1,5 inches / 3,8 cm. This lovely miniature terrestrial globe consists of twelve copper engraved, hand coloured gores over a plaster and papier-mache base. The gores are varnished. The colouring is both subtle and original. The simple title is found in the North Pacific Ocean. Two metal pinions or pivots stand out from both poles and correspondingly fit into ready-made nitches in the globe case. The globe features the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer, it shows the Equator and the Elliptical Circle. It marks the tracks of Capt. James CookÂ’s third voyage of 1776. The globe is in fine overall condition, with only minor surface abrasions and some paper loss to some gores - most noticeably around the Poles, the Eastern Ocean around Keeling Island, and Western Australia. A little about miniature globes: The miniature or pocket globe was a British invention, introduced to the world by Joseph Moxon in 1673 when he produced a 3-inch globe. To own a pocket globe is to have the whole world in miniature. Pocket globes were never to be taken very seriously - they never served any practical purpose; their size makes accurate calculations impossible, and they tend to lack the rings and dials for most common manipulations.
