Description:
Bozeman, MT: Doring Press, 2010. First printing. (124) pp., 8 x 10 inches. Perfect-bound in printed wrappers. One hundred color photographs (many full-page and double-page spreads). New. A photographic project documenting soccer fans in South Africa during the 2010 World Cup, concentrating on their fanciful hats and costumes, but extending to the landscape and other social scenes. The elaborate Makarapa hats were "historically worn by black South Africans, but have now been adopted by South African soccer fans of all races as a symbol of pride and support for Bafana Bafana"; at the same time, they also evoke the long history of mining (and apartheid) on which the country was built.

Description:
Portland, OR: Author, 2012. Original work. 4 x 5.25 inches. Unique artist's book, titled, signed, and dated on the spine. Fine condition. Artist Gabriel Liston, whose paintings typically depict an unsentimental view of the world of children's experience, creates these one-of-a-kind "book tiles" by sewing shut copies of cheaply made commercial children's books (all from the same series), sealing them with acrylic medium, and painting images in a blue reminiscent of Delft tiles. Liston maintains the book tiles' tenuous connection with their origin by typically taking the title from a caption in the book, and by sanding away tiny areas to allow the original cover coloration to show through.

Description:
Cologne: Coloniae Agrippinae, 1575. First printing. 21.5 x 15.5, hand-colored map. Scattered foxing in margins, not affecting image; pencil notations from previous owner and tape remants to corners on reverse. In very good condition, with strong color. Plate 22 from the second volume of Braun and Hogenberg's celebrated atlas of cities of the world -- the second modern atlas, following (and modeled on) Theatrum Orbis Terrarum of Ortelius. Noted, among other things, for the varied views of cities of Europe, and for the information about costume revealed in the small portraits at the bottom of many of the maps. Printed on the reverse of the recto half of the image is Braun's text describing the city of Arras. The hand-coloring, while following a consistent general plan, varies among copies and editions; in this copy, for example, the waterway surrounding the city is blue for only half its course, whether due to the colorist's whim (or inattention), or possibly to the conditions at the time of execution?… Read more
