The recipient was a Canadian ice hockey player of some renown, but also at various times a disc jockey, stockbroker, travel broker, writer, university professor and ski instructor. Description:
Hodder and Stoughton, London., 1952. Second impression (in fact, second edition) of a book whose first was in 1941. Octavo. 25 pages. A long poem inspired by Winston Churchill. The format of this reprint differs in several respects from that of the first edition, most notably in that it is clothbound (rather than in card wrappers) and that the frontispiece portrait photograph by Cecil Beaton has migrated to the dustwrapper.Presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the front free endpaper: ''For Flora Robson from Cecil Roberts, June 1952. Remembering a most beautiful diction.'' Perhaps he is referring to the rousing speech the actress gave as Elizabeth I in the 1937 film Fire Over England. Winston Churchill is said to have watched the film eight or nine times, and there is even a suggestion that he write some of the script.Edges and endpapers spotted. Very good in very good, slightly marked dustwrapper a bit darkened at the spine and with signs of damp along the bottom edge.
