Pond's only published map, representing an accumulation of his extensive travels throughout the northwest and a great cartographical accomplishment, especially when one considers that his only navigational tool was a compass. "This map is of unique importance in the Pond story, for it disclosed the general geography of northwestern America." (Gough) and is based on Pond's map of 1787, which in turn was based on his earlier map of 1785. Berlin, Germany: Deutsche Lufthansa, n.d.. Loose Photographs. Very Good. Circa late 1930's photographs. When first built in 1929/30, the G 38 was one of the largest aircraft in the world. Four 5" x 7" gelatin silver photographs of the massive Junkers G 38, all with Lufthansa's typed caption IDs and company rubber stamps verso. The 1st image shows the D-2500 [the 2nd G 38 to be built] during liftoff. This image was developed using mid-1930's Agfa Lupex Gaslight paper, with the "Agfa-Lupex" backprint ; the 2nd image is an interior shot, looking towards the forward view seating, while other passengers receive their food and wine service under a signed photo of Hindenburg on the wall above [the D-2500 was renamed after Hindenburg in 1933] ; the 3rd image shows the D-AZUR [the very first G 38 to be built, aka D-2000] preparing to taxi onto the runway at Tempelhof Airport in Berlin ; the 4th image shows the D-APIS [originally the D-2500] loading civilian passengers with the Nazi swastika clearly visible… Read More

Black cloth over boards with title and logo stamped in red onto upper board and spine, 12mo (7-3/8 inches tall), pp. 312. Volume with spine ends softened, top corner of ffep clipped and slight toning to text block. Price-intact DJ has edge wear and heavy fading to spine text, a 2 inch triangular piece missing from bottom corner of rear panel near flap edge, smaller chips and closed tears to spine ends and flap corners, old tape repairs verso. DJ with the same great artwork - credited to "HD" - as the Doubleday first edition, with only the rear flap and panel changed to reflect Collier's current offerings of the day. A tough jacket to find in decent condition. Danger from the "Yellow Peril" and the "Diabolically cruel and diabolically clever" head of a dope-smuggling ring keeps Scotland Yard busy in this early Crime Club mystery.

Established in 1816 by Judge James Stark and still in business today, the Stark Brothers issued this beautifully illustrated post-war catalog to showcase their fruit trees, ornamentals and flowering stock after being in business for over 131 years.
