Washington, DC: U.S. Government Printing Office. Very Good. 1860. Removed Document. 36th Congress, 1st Session. House Report No. 172; 12 pages; Removed Document; clean and complete. Report from Mr. Leach regarding claims of Nahum Ward (unsuccessfully filed repeatedly over the course of 50 years) demanding the amount of 43 loan office certificates, of 400 USdollars each, dated December 23, 1777 plus interest. The arguments presented in the Court of Claims in Nahum Ward vs The United States. An ancient claim against the United States, founded on loan certificates issued by the Continental Congress in 1777 and sent to the loan office in Georgia to be given in exchange for money when countersigned by the loan officer of that state, rejected, there being no sufficient evidence that the certificates were countersigned and issued as required by the legislation which authorized them, the same claim having been rejected in 1792 by Alexander Hamilton, then Secretary of the Treasury, and there… Read More

New York: Rinehart and Co.. Near Fine in Very Good- dust jacket. 1948. First Edition; Second Printing. Hardcover. (viii), 721 pages; Contents clean and secure in original brown cloth binding with black lettering at spine and black "flame" image on front board. Dustjacket retains 4.00; shallow chips at spine ends and corners, creased at folds. Author's photograph by G. Maillard Kesslere on the rear panel of dustjacket. Rear flap of dustjacket has five review extracts. An attractive example of this landmark novel. The Naked and the Dead was Mailer's debut novel. It depicts the experiences of a platoon during World War II, based partially on Mailer's experiences as a cook with the 112th Cavalry Regiment during the Philippines Campaign in World War II. It was the first popular novel about World War II and quickly became a bestseller. In 1998, the Modern Library ranked The Naked and the Dead on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. .

Description:
Cambridge: Eclectic Magazine of Foreign Literature and Science. Very Good-. 1859. Engraving. From the April 1859 issue of The Eclectic Magazine; 1 pages; Steel engraved standing portrait of NAPOLEON inducing POPE PIUS VII to Sign the Concordat. Image measures 12cm X 16.5cm, plate measures 16cm X 25cm. Foxing at margins. Engraved by John Sartain, after the original by Sir D. Wilkie for the Eclectic Magazine. The Concordat of 1801 was an agreement between Napoleon and Pope Pius VII, signed on 15 July 1801 in Paris.[1] It remained in effect until 1905. It sought national reconciliation between revolutionaries and Catholics and solidified the Roman Catholic Church as the majority church of France, with most of its civil status restored. The hostility of devout Catholics against the state had then largely been resolved. It did not restore the vast church lands and endowments that had been seized upon during the revolution and sold off. .
