Publisher’s original forest green cloth with spine lettered in gilt and with gilt panel lines at the top and bottom of the spine, the front and rear cloth-covered boards have blind-stamped vertical lines at the top, dark green endpapers, 8vo. This volume combines “Natural Selection” first published in 1870 with “Tropical Nature” first published in 1878 into a new edition with corrections first published in 1891. The front facing endpapers display two bookplates -- Richmond College, Surrey (and) Library of the Wesleyan Theological Institution, Richmond, Surrey. This is a scarce early review of the Irish avifauna covering descriptions, habits, migrations, occurrences and economy of 261 species. This volume was first owned by Henry Fisher and was brought by him from Ireland to the U.S.A. Fisher later passed the book to his grandson, Fisher Heckmott Joy, in July 1910; their ownership history is recorded on the half-title page. The final owner was William M.
