The covers are in very good minus condition, their original green color is still quite vivid with only a couple of small scuff marks on them. The most significant issue is bumping at the corners, the most noticeable is the bottom front corner which is creased. There is also some minor loss at the bottom fore-edges of both the front and back cover (less than 1" long). The title and author(s) are stamped in dark green on the front cover and spine. There is some rubbing and creasing on the top and bottom of the spine, along with a couple of other marks, but overall, the spine is still attractive. The binding is solid. The interior of this book is in very good plus condition. There no writing, markings or foxing detected. The pages are clean and bright. The front cover includes a striking illustration in silver color and the spine is also decorated with silver color and includes title and author. There is one small indentation on the front cover. The dust jacket is worn around the edges and the spine is sunned; the photographs on the front and back of the dust jacket are quite clear. The interior of the book is bright and there are numerous photographic illustrations throughout. The only blemish to the interior are 4 small residual tape marks on the front free endpaper. A nice copy of this book.

Volume II has a small white spot on the front and rear covers. Overall, the covers of both volumes are in very good condition. The binding of volume I is solid. The binding of volume II is intact, although the front cover is beginning to separate on the inside hinge. They are in very good condition, with slight bumping at top of spine. The book contains many black and white photographs of the sun, eclipses, equipment and data. The frontis is a photograph of the heavily spotted sun dated Aug. 14, 1947. A previous owners name is written on the inside of the front cover and the front cover and endpaper are discolored. Otherwise, there is no writing in this book and the pages are clean and bright.
