Description:
London & New York: John Lane, 1898 Facsimile of a rare Shelley item published in edition of 500 copies. The original first published volume of Shelley's poetry, published in 1810 in an edition of 1100 copies was so successfully suppressed due to the unwitting inclusion of a poem by Matthew Gregory Lewis that it became a "lost book". An extensive Introduction by Richard Garnett, editor, clarifies the history of this 'lost book', how he traced one (of two) known copies, and edited this publication in facsimile. HC, 8vo, blue grey boards, paper label to front cover and spine, xxvii, 66pp, deckled foredges. Head and tail of spine worn and chipped, spine label fading, some cover soil, some foxing mostly to endpapers, bookplates of former owners (Myrtle A. Crummer and Sotheby's 1916). Internally clean and fine.. Hardcover. Very Good.
