Description:
1789. Pamphlet. 16pp. Folded sheet. One of Brissot's many pamphlets composed in the years and months leading up to the July 1789 storming of the Bastille that launched the French Revolution. Brissot supported many of the ideals of the Enlightenment philosophes, such as Rousseau and Voltaire, and was committed to a representative government that answered to the needs of the people. Because his writings were considered anti-monarchical, Brissot spent time in the Bastille. In this pamphlet published in May 1789, Brissot recommended establishing special committees to communicate with the deputies of the Estates General and was critical of the assignment of only one vote to the Third Estate. ; Octavo.
