New York: Carl Fischer, Inc., 1950. First Edition . Sheet Music. Good Plus. 9" x 12. The exceedingly scarce and only source of this Theodore Roethke poem, written exclusively for his collaboration with American composer Douglas Moore. The poem was possibly suppressed by Roethke's subsequent editors/publishers because of its deliberate naivete. The result, however, is a truly delightful art-song. 6 pages. CONDITION: A Good Plus unmarked copy with a bit of rubbing/discoloration to its covers, its score pages clean and bright. The upper right corners are chipped/missing, but both outer corners are discreetly reinforced with near-invisible library archival tape, as are the spine-end splits. This remains a quite respectable copy - now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag with archival backing board.
