This set issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Bound in thick morocco leather bindings. Gilded spines. The top edges are gilded. Illustrated. 10.25 inches tall. These are large books. 18 inches of shelf space. VERY GOOD condition. The leather is very supple and fresh. The hinges are all strongly and fully attached. There is some general shelf wear and abrasion. Printed on quality paper that is fresh, bright, and clean. The front end paper with some abrasion and edge wear, and stuck to the limitation page. Near free of any trace of foxing. No writing. These are large books measuring over 10 inches tall. In good condition, and consistent with that book grade. Worn spines, as shown. With abrasion and chipping. The hinges are attached and strong, although internally there is some starting. Early bookplate. Some waviness from old water damage. Not musty. Small edge chips internally and externally. General external abrasion and some bleeding and dustiness, but still a nice antiquarian leather set that displays well. First Printing, bound from the original serialized parts, with all required First Issue points, including on Page 132, line 20, which reads ‘screamed’, later corrected to 'screwed'. This printing error is only present in the First Issue. The vignette title page has ‘Bradbury & Evans’ and the date ‘1850’ present at the bottom of the page. All other typographical errors present and described at the bottom of this listing. Bound in a period leather binding, with pebble grained black cloth. Five raised bands on the spine. Spine label stating ‘David Copperfield' in gilded text is bright and legible. Complete, and with 39 plates, plus the vignette title page. In about Very Good condition overall.
