[Chicago]: Greyhound Corporation, 1960. Color poster [100 cm x 76 cm] / [40" x 24"] Nice condition with bright colors. Promotional poster from Greyhound advertising their service to the Pacific Northwest, that features an illustration of a fisherman standing in a wooden skiff that floats atop a mountain lake. Greyhound Corporation, a national bus transportation company, grew out of the transportation service operated by Carl Eric Wickman in Hibbing, Minnesota in 1914. Wickman and associates formed the Motor Transit Corporation in 1926, which changed its name to Greyhound Corporation and assumed the image of a running dog as the company symbol in 1929. Over the years, the bus services operated by this corporation and partner or subsidiary companies were sometimes called Greyhound lines.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1891. 309pp. Duodecimo [20 cm] Green cloth with gilt titles on the front board and backstrip. Very good. Bookplate on the front pastedown with offsetting to the facing page. Illustrated with black and white views. Early western travel narrative by the noted music critic. Henry Theophilus Finck (1854-1926) was an American music critic and author. Among "the most prolific and influential critics of his day", he was chief classical music critic of both the New York Evening Post and The Nation from 1881 to 1924.

San Francisco: [Lawrence & Houseworth], 1865. Carte de Visite. Albumen photograph [8 cm x 5.5 cm] on a white Pacific Insurance Company mount [10 cm x 6 cm] Pacific Insurance Company backstamp. Nice condition. View shows the former Pacific Insurance Company building that was located on the northwestern corner of California and Leidesdorff streets in San Francisco. Lawrence & Houseworth was a partnership between optician George S. Lawrence and photographer Thomas Houseworth, 1864-67. The firm produced many of the best early views of California as well as the earliest mammoth plate views of Yosemite by C.L. Weed.

Minor rubbing to extremities. Image has strong contrasts. In 1870 Dr. Ferdinand Vandiveer Hayden invited Jackson to become the official photographer of the United States Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories. Jackson remained with the Survey until 1878, working closely with the artist Thomas Moran and others. The official report of the Survey for 1875 stated of Jackson's photographs: "They have done very much, in the first place, to secure truthfulness in the representation of mountain and other scenery." Los Angeles: Pierce & McConnell, 1893. Boudoir cabinet card. Albumen photograph [19 cm x 11.5 cm] / [7.5 " x 4.5"] on a black 'Pierce & McConnell' mount [21.5 cm x 13.5 cm] / [8.5" x 5.25"]. Gray back with a lengthy printed description of Southern California (from the Chamber of Commerce). Tinted view of front gate of a palatial estate with a home partially visible through the trees. Charles C. Pierce (1861-1946) was a pioneer Los Angeles photographer, who came to Los Angeles in 1886 from Chicago because of his health and remained until his death in 1946. "The climate of Southern California constitutes the most important factor in its development, for the reason that to it the section owes the peculiarly valuable class of agricultural products which are grown for export, and it owes to it also its fame as a summer and winter resort, and as a place of refuge for those who either through age or a tendency to disease wish to flee from the rigors of the Eastern winter and spring.

Promotional piece for the D&RGW/Western Pacific. One side contains nine lovely color views of sites along the D& R.G.W. and the Western Pacific lines: Royal Gorge - Eagle River Canon - Canon of the Colorado River - Marshall Pass - Temple Square - Crossing Great Salt Lake - Serpentine Canon - Castle Butte [CA] - Along the Feather River. The reverse contains a description of the route and sites along the way and a map of the D&R.G.W. line [21.5 cm x 37.5 cm]. "The Western Pacific Railroad upholds a reputation for scenery and service equal to that of its sister road, the Denver & Rio Grande Western. Thoroughly down to date in its appointments, it unfolds a region not only fascinating but instructive, much of which is now for the first time penetrated by a railroad.

Eight tinted views are presented on one side: Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak, Royal Gorge, Marshall Pass, Canon of the Grand River, Glenwood Springs, Curecanti Needle, Castle Gate, and Temple Square. Reverse contains descriptions of same and a map of the D&RG line. "The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad 'The Scenic Line of the World,' forms a portion of the most attractive of all the great Trans-Continental Lines traversing, as it does, the Rocky Mountains through the great states of Colorado and Utah between Denver and Ogden, a distance encompassing more grand, varied and attractive mountain scenery than can be viewed from the car windows of any other railroad of equal distance in the world.

[Los Angeles], 1943. Jumbo post card [13 cm x 17 cm] printed in color. Near fine. This card features a nice bird's-eye view of Pasadena with City Hall at one end, and the Rose Bowl at the other. "Now and Tomorrow: Her war tasks geared to the complete Victory that America and the Allies cannot be denied, Pasadena is prepared to give her fighting sons and daughters and all citizens the future for which they have been most willing to sacrifice. As their dreams become hopes and their hopes become plans, Pasadena is destined to continue her place as the city where the goodness of life is greatest.

Washington DC: U.S. Geographical and Geological Survey of the Rocky Mountains, 1873. Albumen stereoview [11 cm x 15.5 cm] on a yellow J.W. Powell and A.H. Thompson mount [11.5 cm x 17.5 cm] with a printed paper label on the reverse. Strong contrasts. Gentle sunning and minor staining to extremities. View of the Three Lakes Canyon in southeastern Utah. Views on Kanab Creek. This stream heads in Southern Utah and runs south until it empties into the Colorado River, about midway in the course of the Grand Canon. Middle Canon of the Kanab is a gorge cut by the stream through the Vermillion Cliffs. Jack Hillers (1840-1882) was working as a teamster in Salt Lake City when he met John Wesley Powell, the following year (1871) he was hired by Powell as a boatman for his second expedition down the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon. Well written and researched work that contrasts the eras of the suffragist movement in Utah of the early 20th century and the anti-ERA movement of Utah of the later 20th century. "Early Utah leaders such as Relief Society President Emmeline B. Wells walked hand-in-hand with Anthony and other controversial reformers. However, by the 1970s, Mormons had undergone a significant ideological turn to the mainstream, championing women's unique roles in home and church, and joined other conservatives in defeating the Equal Rights Amendment. Review copy with letter and slipped laid in Compiled diaries of Eliza R. Snow. Snow (1804-1887) is the first lady of Mormon letters, and her lists of accomplishments is long: President of the Relief Society from the time of its reorganization in Utah, author of nine published volumes, president of the Deseret Hospital Association, organizer of the Young Ladies Mutual Improvement Association, the children's Primary Association, and the Woman's Commission Store.

"Although constant reference is made in this treatise to the loyalty of the Mormon people, mainly because of the persistent falsehoods circulated by hireling agitators in the East, it should be stated that the citizens of Utah irrespective of creed, party or color, are working unitedly in all war activities and are responding nobly to every call of the government." Flake/Draper 3604. Rare.

Salt Lake City: Utah-Wyoming Oil Company, 1918. [8]pp. Quarto [28 cm] Stapled printed wrappers. Very good. Prospectus for an oil sands project in the San Rafael Swell being promoted by L. Culbreth of Salt Lake City, on behalf of the Utah-Wyoming Oil Company. Illustrated with black and white views and a map. Not much came of this particular venture. "It can be said truthfully that no risk whatever is necessary to engage in the oil producing business in the San Rafael district. Nature has put the oil sands where man can 'help himself' to as many billion tons of them as will satisfy his needs; and by the use of simply designed mechanical devices, he can extract as many millions of barrels of oil as can be consumed for hundreds of years to come." - p.6.

Anonymously compiled vernacular photograph album that has 40 small [9 cm x 6 cm] / [3.5" x 2.5"] black and white photographs mounted nicely to the first 9 leaves. Views are of a small child in and around a farmhouse, with various people.

Salt Lake City: C.R. Savage, Art Bazar, 1898. 20 plates + 42pp. Oblong sextodecimo [13.5 cm x 17.5 cm] Red side sewn limp red wrappers. Lacks cord with textblock laid in. Otherwise near fine. View book containing twenty pages of plates of Salt Lake City and the surrounding area, that is followed by 42 pages of descriptions of the plates as well brief descriptions of life in Salt Lake and facts about various aspects of the city. Charles Roscoe Savage (1832-1909) was an accomplished and prolific photographer who lived successfully within his Salt Lake City community and traveled widely throughout the West taking photographs and befriending other important photographers of his day such as Carleton Watkins, Edward Wilson, Timothy O'Sullivan, Alfred Hart and A.J. Russell. Savage took several of the West's most famous images at the celebration of the joining of the transcontinental railroads at Promontory Point, Utah in 1869. Savage also took the first photographs of what became Zion National Park.

View book for the prospective tourist on Southern Pacific's Shasta Route from the Bay Area to Vancouver, BC, that is illustrated with 65 full-page captioned black and white views of places one might see on the trip. Images attributed to 'Moulin' likely, Gabriel Moulin of San Francisco. "Shasta Route, stretching along the Pacific Coast from San Francisco to Portland and the Pacific Northwest, takes you over great mountains, past lakes of clear blue water, through rose-lined valleys sheltered by emerald hills, past tall cascades in whose spray the sunshine paints dancing rainbows, and through virgin forests of pine and fir that fill the air with fragrance.

Denver: Colorado & Southern Railway, 1910. [46]pp. Octavo [24.5 cm] Gray printed wrappers. Very good. Promotional work from the Colorado & Southern Railway that offers views and descriptions of a few of the scenic delights that a passenger might see. "How long ago these towering mountains were lifted from the sea, the wisest philosopher of the world can not tell. At what time those marvelous canons were chiseled, how many eons have passed since the beautiful mountain parks lay spread out before the enraptured gaze of primeval man, no mortal can say. Even the profoundest scientist, backed by all the research of modern inquiry, can not designate the time when the rude aborigine first set eyes upon the snow-capped summits which appear to hang like blue clouds over the western horizon.
