Description:
First Edition, Later Printing (c. 1925, with early printing points satisfied). Profusely and wonderfully illustrated throughout with richly colored and black & white illustrations. A good copy for the Oz collector and fan.Patchwork Girl is an important edition of the Oz Canon as it marked a return to Oz by Baum after his decision to end the Oz series with the Emerald City of Oz (published in 1910) to work on an entirely new fantasy series. After that new effort failed, Baum, at the urging of his publisher and friends, wrote and published The Patchwork Girl of Oz in 1913. A good decision in hindsight as the book was a major critical and popular success. Baum's dreams of turning the title and tale into a play and toy merchandising phemon didn't work out, but his return to the land of Oz set the stage for more than 50 years of Oz tales, not the least of which was the now classic MGM film, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
This title is quite rare to find in top condition, especially as there was no dust… Read More

Description:
First Edition, First Printing. Fine in a fine dustjacket. Inscribed by Bezner on the title page; very rare thus. "In the early and most intense years of the Cold War, social documentary photographers often found themselves in ideological turmoil or in trouble with the government. In this volume, Lili Corbus Bezner argues that many of the photographers of this period retreated from overt political content. Although many critics defended the trend, arguing that truly visionary art transcended politics, Bezner notes that the Cold War era effectively silenced some of the most socially engaged photographers in American society. Bezner aims to bring back many of those silenced voices and offers a detailed analysis of social documentary photography from the Depression through the early Cold War years. She traces the political and artistic struggles of socially concerned photographers in interviews with the artists, and explores the history of controversial, black-listed Photo League and member Sid Grossman.…

Description:
First Edition, First Printing. Illustrated with original artwork by Cris Cristofaro. One of only 200 copies. Fine in original blue-black cloth with pictorial onlay on front cover. Bill Matthews, one of the most important contemporary poets, left behind a large archive containing numerous prose poems and short stories. However, Matthews included only one prose poem in any of the dozen or so books published during his lifetime. Here, we have a selection of the poet's lost prose pieces, presented here for the first time in book form, comprising eight short stories and fourteen prose poems. Provisions is a terrific read, and important for future scholars working on Matthews. Edited and introduced by Sebastian Matthews. Octavo. 79 pp. An absolutely love copy.

Description:
First Edition, First Printing. Personal account of the 'Putumayo Affair' and international scandal. Personal account by Hardenburg who, on his way from Panama to visit the Amazon, stumbled upon the atrocities being committed under the auspices of Julio Arana, a local rubber baron living in Iguitos, Peru. This occurred in the early 1900s when rubber was in demand world-wide and fortunes were made but labor was exploited. Hardenburg saw first-hand the maltreatment of the Huitoto Indians who were forced to tap rubber trees. Arana was the local representative of a British rubber concern and Hardenburg took it upon himself to travel to London to expose what was going on the British having no idea of the situation. After years of rejection, the British press finally published his story and the entire 'Putumayo Affair' became an international scandal. Includes extracts from the famous report of Sir Roger Casement confirming the occurrences. (Casement was knighted in 1911 for his investigations into the…
