Volume I of III only. In a lovely full calf binding. Conington was an English classical scholar. His best known work is his translation of Virgil's Aeneid into the octosyllabic metre of Sir Walter Scott. This work comprises of Virgil's Eclogues and Georgics. Condition: In a full calf binding. Externally, very smart with patches of rubbing to the spine. Top of spine is lifting slightly. Several marks to boards. Tidemark to the front board at edges. Internally, firmly bound. Containing all of Ovid's best-known works, including Heroides, Metamorphoses, Amores and Ars Amatoria. With an engraved half-title to each volume. Volume II, containing Metamorphoses, contains many further engravings illustrative of the text. Copperplate inscription to front blank of volume I, dated 1819. With copious noted by Nikolaes Heinsius the Elder (July 20, 1620 1681), a Dutch classical scholar and poet, son of Daniel Heinsius. Condition: In calf bindings. Externally, rather rubbed and bumped. All joints cracked; one board held by one cord only. One further hinge strained. Internally, firmly bound, generally bright and clean but with the odd spot and mark. Overall: GOOD (ONLY).
