Story: Roger and Cathy, who both wanted a pony, found a Victorian toy pony-cart in a junk shop, and lucky Cathy bought it for a penny. They called their new companion Prince Penny, took him everywhere, and had wonderful adventures. But when they went away on their holidays with their parents, Prince Penny disappeared.

Synopsis: The dust jacket describes this as "a brisk slapstick comedy." "You see, there are two brothers -- the red-headed rascal, who is a real go-getter, and the lazy good-for-nothing, who is reluctant to go anywhere or do anything. The red-headed rascal has a scheme for catching a one-eyed man, bringing him home, and putting him on display in the marketplace "A penny a look! We'll make millions!" he says." But of course, that isn't quite how things work out.

It also contains a brief foreword, providing background information on the lecture series and some biographical information about the author, John Ibbitson, a Canadian newspaperman and author of books for children. This copy looks new, with a crisp clean interior, and unmarked paper covers.

Synopsis: This is an historical mystery set in Sturbridge Village, Massachussets, in 1836. Young Gil Martindale set out that morning to take lunch to the haymakers in his father's field, down near the Hollow, a low-lying place, with a few poor families living nearby. There was a long-standing hatred between the Martindales and the Perrelys, one of the Hollow families. Before the day was over he was involved in a mystery about a barn-burning and a missing hoard of money.
