Amsterdam and Rio de Janeiro, Colibris Editoria [AND] London, A. Zwemmer, 1960. Two parts in two. Folio (43.6 x 28.8 cm). Text volume 40 pp., printed wrappers. Plate volume 23 pp.; 60 beautiful plates (32 in full colour) of neotropical birds. Cloth with full colour pictorial dustjacket. Combined in original slipcase with printed label on the spine. = A fine reproduction of the utterly rare original 1835 edition titled "Oiseaux brillants et remarquables du Bresil", including its original French text. The descriptions are repeated in English in the Atlas volume. The publication of the original text, by Zemmer in London, was felt to be a necessary addition to the plates. Pictorial bookplate on the front free endpaper recto of the atlas, a few plates loose due to the lumback binding, otherwise good. Complete copies, especially with the original slipcase, are not very common.

Boston, MA, The Boston Society of Natural History, 1885. Two papers in one. 4to (30.0 x 22.2 cm). 40 pp.; four lithographed plates. Original printed wrappers. = Two papers by the Bostonian entomologist Samuel Hubbard Scudder (1837-1911), on the classification of fossil insects. The first paper contains descriptions and illustrations of new species; the second paper is a more general review of insect phylogeny. Bot published, back-to-back in the Society's Memoirs (numbers 12 and 13). Beautifully illustrated and rare, as with many of these early Memoirs. Horn-Schenkling II(4) p. 93.

Tokyo, The University Museum of the Unversity of Tokyo, 1973-1974. Two parts in two. Large 8vo. 331 pp. [150; 181]; 23 plates [23; 10], numerous tables. Originaluniform printed wrappers. = On an excavation in a cave near the famous ruins of Palmyra. The complete set, including the second part that deals largely with with mammalian and avian bones. Slight wear to first part's wrappers, otherwise a very good, clean set.

Spine with five raised, gilt-lined bands and gilt title. Marbled endpapers. = An attractively bound work published in the Memoirs of the Geological Survey of India with the descriptions and fine illustrations of many new and poorly known species, the vast majority being quite well preserved. The author is the Moravian zoologist and palaeontologist Ferdinand Stoliczka (Czech Stolicka (1838-1874). "Stoliczka studied geology and palaeontology at Prague and the University of Vienna under Professor Eduard Suess and Dr Rudolf Hoernes. ... In 1862 Stoliczka joined the Geological Survey of India (GSI) under the British Government in India after being recruited by Dr Thomas Oldham (1816-1878). In five volumes. 4to (31.2 x 21.4 cm). 1,115 pp. [216; 192; 301; 89; 270, 47]; 111 plates [17; 24; 26; 12; 27, 5]; numerous text illustrations. Original uniform printed wrappers. = A rare, complete set of the palaeontological results of two expeditions to eastern Somalia, which, at the time, was governed by Italy. It deals mostly with Foraminifera and Mollusca, chiefly from Mesozoic age, or Plio-Pleistocene age. This is Palaeontographia Italica Memorie di Paleontologia XXXII, with four supplements in the reprint edition. The original series was published in Pisa and is even more rare. A very good, unmarked set.

In original green portfolio with printed title page mounted. = Rare, beautifully illustrated atlas of these well-preserved faunas with a great many new species (names on plate captions). Written by the German geologist, palaeontologist and ethnographer Georg Boehm (1854-1913). The complete atlas. The text was published separately in octavo format and is not included. Title page mounted. Some insignificant foxing and a weak, marginal damp stain (first plate with a small, dark, marginal spot); title page edges with a few tiny chips, otherwise a very good copy. Cat. Near uniform half cloth over printed boards. Spines with gilt title. = Profusely illustrated and containing several new species in various groups, including Mollusca. In Chinese with Latin nomenclature. For some reason, the second volume has a green spine, whereas in the other two volumes it is red. All three volumes in very good condition.

Uniform contemporary half calf over marbled boards; portfolio with marbled boards. Gilt title on the spines of the bound volumes. = A rare, trilingual (German, French, English) publication: "The eight International Geological Congress (Paris 1900) passed a resolution in favour of the establishment of a palaeontological publication of which the design should be the re-publication of the illustrations and descriptions of type-fossils, giving preference to the ancient forms, and to those of which the descriptions are difficult to trace by bibliographical research" (Von Zittel and Oehlert in the original printed announcement, which is included in this set). Original uniform stiff, printed wrappers. = A long run of this important series, which is less known than many American palaeontological series, but with many papers on Tertiary Mollusca, and also several papers on Mesozoic cephalopods. Contributions to Mollusca are the most common. With a few exceptions, each issue contains a single monograph. The following issues are present: 1-27, 29-46, 48-50 (i.e., lacking issues 28 and 47 only). Stamp on front most wrappers, otherwise very good, clean copies.

Bloemfontein, Nasionale Museum, 1929-1951. 4to (28.0 x 22.0 cm). 351 pp.; numerous illustrations. Original printed wrappers. = The complete first Deel (Part), consisting of ten "Stuks", or Issues. All papers are on ammonites, except the first, which is on Trigoniidae. The Dutch-born South African palaeontologist Egbert Cornelis Nicolaas van Hoepen (1884-1966) was in fact the editor and sole author. Parallel to this "part" ran Deel 2 (Part 2), on fossil mammals. It is not included. Uncut. A few with a small former owner's stamp, "Brongersma" (perhaps the Dutch herpetologist and professor of systematic biology Leo Daniel Brongersma [1907-1994]) on front wrappers, otherwise very good, clean.
