Boards rubbed and soiled, spine faded, some page edges lightly toned. A Very Good copy in a handsome binding. INSCRIBED by Sacha Guitry to British producer and theatre manager Charles Cochran: "À un ami / de dix ans / à Charles D. Cochran / Sacha Guitry." Also with the ownership inscription of the recipient's wife, Evelyn. Sacha Guitry (1885-1957) was a prolific French playwright as well as a talented actor and director. This volume (in French) is a selection of essays, dialogue from plays, and his often-humorous thoughts on life.

James Cahill (1926-2014), an eminent art historian, gave these lectures at Columbia in 1991. He challenges the traditional image of scholar-artists being uninterested in material rewards. CONDITION: Fine in a Very Good dust jacket. The jacket has the ghost of a price sticker on the rear cover, a tiny hole in the front cover and a few small tears along the edges. The front flap appears to be trimmed too closely to the text but is still perfectly readable.

Catalogue for an exhibition of paintings by Liu Kuo-sung (b. 1932 in Shandong Province, China). Although the catalogue was issued by Goedhuis Contemporary, the exhibition took place at Dickinson Roundell in New York from November 22 to December 2, 2000. With an introduction by Melissa Walt Thompson and a list of the artist's exhibitions. This catalogue is scarce in commerce. CONDITION: Fine.

Catalogue of an exhibition of works by Georges Rouault, which took place in May 1940 at the Bignou Gallery in New York. Besides the cover image, there are five additional images (all black-and-white) along with a list of 25 works. Scarce in the antiquarian book trade. CONDITION: Sunning to wrapper extremities (especially noticeable on the lower wrapper), staples a bit rusted, some scattered foxing to a few pages. About Very Good overall.

The letter is on Ritz Hotel Paris stationery. A collection of Flanner's articles from The New Yorker for 1925-1939. Flanner (1892-1978) used the pseudonym Genêt and wrote on a wide variety of political and cultural topics. This collection, edited by Irving Drutman, has pieces on Josephine Baker, Marlene Dietrich, Mae West, Sarah Bernhardt, Picasso, Gertrude Stein's art collection, lurid murder affairs, Paul Signac, gambling, the gathering clouds of war in the late 1930s, and much more. n.p.: Intourist, Inc., 1939. Red folder measuring 4 x 5 3/4 inches (150 x 113 mm) containing 10 post cards. Souvenir folder issued to commemorate the 1939 World's Fair in New York. The folder consists of 10 post cards in black-and-white, with descriptions in English, French, and Russian on the verso of each card. Perhaps not surprisingly, two of the cards depict Lenin and Stalin, while others show a model of the Soviet Union's pavilion, a sailboat, Red Square, a Caucasian dance festival, Theatre Square, the fountains at Peterhof, holiday makers on the Black Sea, and a map showing Intourist offices around the Soviet Union. We find no institutional holdings in OCLC. No others in commerce (July 2021). A complete set of this rare portfolio. CONDITION: Fading to lettering of folder, along with some creases and edge wear. Toning to the verso of the cards. Overall, Very Good or better.

Rare announcement of a speech by Communist Party Chairman William Z. Foster in Los Angeles a little more than a month after Germany invaded the Soviet Union. The announcement appears at the beginning of a text in which the Party calls for the U.S. to spare no effort in defeating Germany: "There can be no peace for the peoples of the world without the complete destruction of Hitler and Hitlerism.
