Description:
Boston: Anne & David Bromer, 1989. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Miniature book, measuring about 40mm x 34mm., illustrated. A fine, fresh copy in the publisher's patterned boards, with applied paper label to front board and gilt-stamped black leather label to spine. Spine with perhaps the faintest age-toning, else a lovely example. In the publisher's slipcase, with hand-colored printed label to side panel. This is number 100 of 110 limited copies SIGNED by Gorey, which were hand-colored in metallic casein (of which just 85 were for sale). The other 290 copies in the total limitation of 400 were un-colored, and issued without a slicpase. The illuminations bring a lively contrast to Gorey's enchanting illustrations. The hand-colored issue is considerably scarcer in commerce; we can trace just one auction sale since the year of publication.

New York: Printed by Isaac Collins, 1800. Hardcover. Very good. First edition. (viii), 141 pages. Evans 37474. Printed on heavy paper, with one or two leaves bound between each of the chapters. According to a note following the introduction, "The book is printed with blank pages for the purpose of making future additions, which are to be inserted in the manner and in the page in which they will be directed to be placed by the yearly meeting. No other additions are to be made.". The present copy is annotated, and corrected in various ways, presumably by someone who attended this annual meeting. On the first free endpaper there is a contemporary annotation: "Abraham Barker Lives in Ohio Huron Co., Town of Brunson." On the blank leaf following p. 50, there is the note: " To the monthly Meeting of . . . Dear friend, We the subscriber, A B son of . . . . do propose taking each other in marriage between us which we submit to your approbation, then dated, AB / CJ"; the inscription is somewhat illegible…

Description:
London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1913. First trade Edition (?). Hardcover. Near fine/Very good-. Quarto, 198pp., plus 22 tipped-in illustrations by Hugh Thompson. A fresh, clean copy, near fine, with previous owner's name on the half-title page and some rubbing and a scuffmark to the bottom edges of the boards. Decorative cloth beautifully preserved. In an age-toned dust jacket, nicked in a few places, but with no major chips - overall, about very good. Verso of half-title has a printed date of 1901, which is the only date in the book, but other similar copies of this volume we have seen on offer have a supposed date of 1913, which seems to match Ahearn's entry for this title. Not a fine copy overall, but internally lovely with no foxing.

Description:
New York: Dutton, 1928. First American Edition, 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very good. Octavo, 283pp., including Glossary at rear, which defines a number of Scottish colloquialisms. A very good copy, with some faint insect damage to boards, and mild foxing to endleaves; still a nice, clean copy. Some pages were inartfully opened, which has caused a few closed tears to margins. In the very scarce dust jacket, good only, with significant rubbing and creasing to extremities, and a hole at the front spine joint; still complete, and quite uncommon in any condition. Shepherd was among the chief exemplars of Scottish modernist literature in the first half of the 20th century, though her memoir of hill-walking in the Grampain Mountains, published decades after she wrote it (in 1977), remains her best-known work.
