Self-printed colour-illustrated softcovers, w/ nose of 1940 Reo streamlined truck on front cover (slight shelfwear), NF copy. First edition of this scarce catalogue of the 1940 Heavy Duty logging trucks produced by REO Motors as they pulled out of their factory shutdown in 1939. The 1940 models -- Model NWL 41 and Model OSL 41 weighing in at 40000 and 35000 gross lbs. respectively, featured new streamlined styling and front cowl, new instrument panel, and more rugged transmission. Of special interest is the “Truck Performance Slide Rule” introduced by the Reo Company sales reps to better recommend particular truck models, with illustration. Within less than 2 years all civilian truck production stopped and Reo turned to producing 5-ton and 7-ton tractors for the US Navy, as well as 3 1/2 ton and buss chassis. One printed broadside poster, sized 9.5 x 12.5 in., printed in red & blue on thick white cardstock, w/ large photo illustration of drivers & race cars (very slight shelfwear, minor dustsoiling, slight creasing to couple corners), still NF exemplar, with correction neatly printed on broadside indicating changed time of 3:00 PM from 2:30 PM, and date stamp of 1940. First edition of this very scarce promotional broadside announcing the thrilling opening of the 100 lap Dayton Speedway half-mile races in June, 1940. The Dayton Speedway was originally opened for its first official race on June 3, 1934, and would later be purchased by Frank Funk in 1937 who quickly began converting the 5/8th-mile oval into a half-mile, high-banked oval, and was rumored to have buried old trolley cars to fill in the banking which was finished at the end of 1939. Red cloth, black lettering first vol; green cloth, purple lettering 2nd vol., both w/ d.j.s. cover art by Busoni (slight shelfwear, very slight dustsoiling), F/NF set. First editions, stated, for both titles in this wonderful juvenile mystery series about how the marvels of radio & television solved the crimes and saved the family fortunes. Binns (1889-1971), was a noted Washington author who won renown for Lightship, a semi-autobiographical novel about life on a Lightship in the Columbia River, and The Laurels are cut down which won the Literary Guild Choice Award, and the Prix Femina Americaine. These were his first two Juvenile titles and are exceedingly scarce in this condition.
