First edition of this very scarce promotional broadside announcing the thrilling opening of the 100 lap Dayton Speedway half-mile races in June, 1940. The Dayton Speedway was originally opened for its first official race on June 3, 1934, and would later be purchased by Frank Funk in 1937 who quickly began converting the 5/8th-mile oval into a half-mile, high-banked oval, and was rumored to have buried old trolley cars to fill in the banking which was finished at the end of 1939. First edition, 1st printing, of this scarce classic of sailing literature about the noted author’s adventure of building a sailing yacht in Riga, Latvia from 1921-1922, and then sailing from Riga, across the Baltic Sea through Estonian waters to Helsingfors, Finland and back. Ransome (1884-1967), was also known for his fine work on Russian fairy tales, as well as his Swallows and Amazons series of children’s adventure books set on the Norfolk Broads in England.

First edition of this remarkable plan book produced by the famed Radford Architectural firm containing 100 original and practical designs for Edwardian-era homes and bungalows. Radford (b. 1865) established his company in the 19th century in Chicago, and within decades became one of the most prolific designers of house plans in America up through the first half of the 20th Century. The Radford Compay often provided these plans -- also promoted in the America Builder Magazine -- to lumber dealers, contractors, and builders around the country.
