Inscribed by White on front flyleaf: "For Dr. George A. Towns with the regard of Walter White." Dr. Towns, a prominent officer of the Atlanta NAACP and an influential professor at Atlanta University, was also a lifelong close friend and correspondent of the dedicatee, James Weldon Johnson.
