Original dark green hardcover boards with gilt lettering front and spine. Very few hardcover examples of this book were produced, probably under 100 copies. Even the paperback version of the first edition is very uncommon. No dust jacket was ever produced for the hardcover version. The book has rubbed corner tips, some light scuffing to rear cover, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, a faint grubby mark on verso of title page, much smaller but similar spots on three other preliminary pages, no other marks on any pages, solid binding, no foxing, solid binding. The dust jacket has no tears, no chips, no rubbing, is clean, complete, no fading. The book measures 221mm tall x 135mm, and has 320 pages, 46 b/w photos, 4 maps, index. Climbing autobiography: Europe, Asia, N & S America, Africa. Gray was joint leader with Don Whillans on the 1964 expedition to Gaurisankar which almost reached top (chapter on this).
