Description:
London: Victor Gollancz Ltd., 1957. First edition, first printing. This is a very good copy. The dust wrapper has several closed tears at the spine and is toned in both panels. It has not been price clipped, showing the original 21/- net price. The boards are slightly sunned at the spine and with some surface toning to both panels. The text blocks are toned, possibly due to poor paper stock, though are not foxed. The author's signature is present on the front fly, inscribed in blue ink, reading: 'For Rossy & Mike, warm regards – and hopes of seeing them soon. Colin. 24 Aug 64.' This is a very good copy overall.

Description:
London: Faber & Faber, 1968-70. First editions, first printings. This is a near fine pair. Both dust wrappers, in their distinct style, have some very slight handling marks and surface wear. Neither have been price clipped and show the original 25s and 30s respective prices. The internals are clean in each case, and the text blocks notably clean, though the top edge of Tunc is mildly foxed. The Book Society Choice band, present on Tuncis without notable wear and correctly shows the novel title on the front flap. Overall, this is a near fine pair of Durrell's 'The Revolt of Aphrodite' duet. The individual volumes, Tunc and Nunquam, were less successful than his earlier 'Alexandria Quartet' in part because they deviate significantly from his earlier style and because they approach more openly political and ideological problems.

Description:
London: John Murray, (1962). First proof edition, first printing. This is a very near fine copy. Beautifully illustrated by Edward Ardizzone, the dust wrapper is slightly bumped and toned at the top and tail edges, showing the original 15s net price. The paper covers are without notable wear, are mostly free from spinal creases, and clean at the text blocks. The scheduled date of publication, '29 Oct 1962' is boldly stamped to the front panel. The internals are clean and free from annotations. This is a very near fine copy of an increasingly scarce proof. A book of nine sections, each of which are preceded by passages from Summoned by the Bells.

Description:
London: Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1957. First edition, second printing. This is a near fine copy. The John Minton dust wrapper has some light shelf wear, with one small closed tear present to the lower panel. Shows the eight 'puffs' on the lower panel', and is stated '2nd impression' to the front flap. It has not been price clipped (15s. net). The boards are without notable wear and the text blocks are free from foxing. Present on the front fly, playwright John Osborne has written: '10. 4. 57. To dear Alan, with many many thanks for "The Entertainer" – John O'. Jagg was credited with the décor in Osborne's famed play The Entertainer, making this a fantastic association between the playwright and an individual involved in stagecraft. Osborne evidently found Room at the Top a good gift for his colleagues. This is a near fine copy. Published in the same month as the first impression (March). An instant debut success from John Braine and my favourite novel by far.
