Hardcover with beveled boards, full blue cloth with gilt lettering to spine and gilt design to front cover, 9-3/8" tall, 48 pp., nine illustrations by Aubrey Beardsley. Wear to spine ends with 1/8" tear to bottom of front joint, moderate wear to tips, moderate rubbing to gilt on front cover, foxing to text pages, especially to first several pages. Aubrey Beardsley's cover shows a clear distinction between his skills in illustration and design. The illustrations in this work are intricate, highly detailed, and free flowing. In contrast, the cover is symmetrical and formal, and quite within the poster art style which was in its heyday in the 1890s. In both styles, Beardsley succeeds; although the florid erotic drawings might be better known, this cover is a brilliant example of the poster art design.

Ian Fleming knew Raymond Chandler for about four years, and his article is "all my memories of him, together with some random comments and reflections and most of the letters we exchanged." Includes Chandler's comments about Fleming's books. A fantastic item of primary source material on two of the most influential genre writers of the 20th century. Bruccoli, p. 25, also note that the only blurb by Chandler listed in Bruccoli is for Fleming's Moonraker.

This has "Fandango Fiesta Legend" & ox decoration to rear cover--I feel like the last time we had this, the rear board was undecorated, but can't find the photos to prove it. Written by an American woman whose husband accepted a job in Guam in 1950. She finds the culture and landscape quite pleasing and accepts a position as a home economics high school teacher. Maxwell discusses various aspects of the culture, including the strong Spanish influence, like the Fandango (wedding), fiesta, and the legend of the coconut. There are notes on the foods found in Guam and nutrition information sprinkled throughout. Recipe names are in Chamorro with English translation provided. Benazir Bhutto (1953 - 2007) was a Pakistani politician who served as the 11th Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996. She was the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan and the first woman to govern a Muslim majority nation. She had lived in exile since 1999 and had just returned to Pakistan in October 2007, just two months before her assassination.

Fading to rear board around a rectangular (book, most likely) unfaded patch, moderate fading to edges of front board. Else fine, but priced accordingly.

Idaho, 1950. Soft cover. Very Good. Blue paper covers with silver stenciled candle to front cover, mimeographed pages, 9" x 6", 20 single-sided pages. Special thanks to Chris Boyd of Boyd's Used and Rare Books for triangulating contributor names to identify Moscow, Idaho as the likely origin of this cookbook. Wear to yapped wraps, else very good. The most interesting contribution is for Nesselrode Pie. This pie was created in 1945 by New York baker Hortense Spier. The original recipe included pecans, but as others copied the recipe it (d)evolved into having chocolate flakes and maraschino cherries instead. The New York Times claimed in a 1988 article that, "while for years it was a popular American Christmas dessert, Nesselrode pie left our collective culinary consciousness about 30 years ago and has hardly been heard from since." (Dec. 7, 1988, Section C, Page 20.) The recipe included in this cookbook does indeed have chocolate flakes, meaning this was probably published in the late 1940s or 1950s.
