Newell would go on to write a bevy of titles for Superior Publishing , including Sea Rogues Gallery, Pacific Lumber Ships, Westward to Alki, Pacific Steamboats, etc. Contains great factual and anecdotal information on the desperate sailing mishaps, wrecks and accidents. Fine in a Fine black cloth slipcase. Barth's pleasantly absurd novel involving intelligence officers, a biker gang and sailing the Chesapeake, presented here in a fittingly funereal binding. Publisher's full black cloth with title stamped in silver on the spine.

San Francisco: Chronicle Books, 1992. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good/Fine. Nick Bantock. Square 8vo. Unpaginated. Illustrated throughout with color drawings by Nick Bantock, along with facsimile correspondence housed within affixed envelopes. Decorated endpapers. Bound in tan and blue paper-covered boards with titles printed on front board and spine. One envelope was opened roughly, showing abrasions on both the envelope and the opposite page. In the dust jacket with price of $17.95 intact on the front flap. Signed by Nick Bantock on the title page. Bantock's follow-up to his surprise 1991 bestseller Griffin & Sabine. As with that book, this, too, has clever design: interspersed throughout are removable facsimiles of letters exchanged by the characters, contained within envelopes mounted on pages. All letters and notes accounted for. A handsome copy with dust jacket is now preserved in a clear, removable archival sleeve.

Galisteo, New Mexico: Desert Rose Press, 1993. First Edition. Stiff paper wraps. Fine. William Slater. Small 8vo. Pp. 62. With spot illustrations by William Slater. Bound in illustrated stiff wrappers printed in black and red. Inscribed by Burke on the half-title page. A TLS from Burke is laid-in, reminiscing about collaboration with a poet-sculptor, along with a photocopy of the letter from the poet-sculptor to which Burke's letter replies. Inscription reads, "To -- -- with fond, fond memories. And El Gaia, too! Love, [signed] Cliff". Although Burke decamped for Galisteo, New Mexico, most of these poems address the sacredness of the region around the Skagit Valley, where the poet was associated with the 1970s bohemia of Fishtown. The exquisite illustrations by Skagit Valley artist William Slater (1939-2007) capture the essence of Burke's tone.

Produced out the Chelsea Hotel by Raymond Foye and Francesco Clemente, this is number 42 in the publisher's seventh series. The editor has picked a fascinating and effective approach to transporting the reader to the San Francisco of the 1850s, e.g. this sample from September 30, 1850: "At some future period, when the site of San Francisco may be explored by generation ignorant of its history, it will take its place by the side of Herculaneum and Pompeii, and furnish many valuable relics to perplex the prying Antiquarian. Buried beneath the surface, there is already a stratum of artificial productions which the entombed cities of Italy cannot exhibit. Knives, forks, spoons, chisels, files and hardware of every description, gathered from the places of several conflagrations . . .." A lovely copy.
