Description:
Brahms started work on his lush setting of Friedrich Hölderlin's poem Hyperions Schicksalslied (Hyperion's Song of Destiny) in 1868 but did not complete it until 1871, being unsatisfied with the ending until he completed his better-known Alto Rhapsody, Op.53. The vocal score offered here is a clean digitally-enhanced reprint of the classic vocal score issued by Breitkopf & Härtel in the early 20th century edited by the eminent musicologist Eusebius Mandyczewski.

Description:
The "School of Bowing Technique" op. 2 is the second important violin tutor by Otakar Ševcík (1852–1934) and deals with the elementary technical demands of the right hand. Divided into three sections, the tutor contains more than 4,000 systematically arranged bowing exercises in increasing order of difficulty.

This new edition of the "School of Bowing Technique" combines the original six volumes in groups of two. It is largely based on the first edition, published in the early 20th century, and on other sources from Ševcík's estate. The editor, Jaroslav Foltýn, is a professor of violin at the Prague Conservatory, as was Ševcík himself. Text is provided in Czech, German and English.

Description:
Otakar Ševcík's Op.2 is a fundamental tutor for teaching the violin. It focuses on the elementary problems of right-hand technique which Ševcík practices in 4,000 variants of systematically organized exercises for all bowings. This famous tutor has remained in use to the present day and is equally valued by players of other string instruments.

The distinguished cellist Tomáš Jamník has arranged the School of Bowing Technique for the violoncello, taking into account its differences from the violin. He has transcribed individual exercises for the violoncello without neglecting Ševcík's original pedagogical aims. As a result, this edition differs fundamentally from the only known cello arrangement of this opus by Louis R. Feuillard.

Description:
Ševcík's complete work covers every area of violin technique, from the most elementary level and special exercises concerning individual technical problems right through to analytical studies of the standard concertos. Today, more than 130 years later, his "Violin School" still numbers among the most important teaching methods for violinists.

The new edition of Ševcík's School of Violin Technique, Op.1 comprises four books and is essentially based on the first edition published at the beginning of the twentieth century. Other sources from Ševcík's posthumous papers have also been taken into account.

Jaroslav Foltýn, violin professor at Prague Conservatory (like Ševcík at one time), has provided an accurate methodological commentary (in Czech, German and English).

Description:
Vaughan Williams conducted the first performance of his great choral symphony on his 38th birthday, October 12, 1910, at the Leeds Music Festival. The work was well received and has been in the symphonic repertoire ever since. The text was taken by the composer from Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass". This digitally restored score, the first available at a reasonable price, is reissued from the one first published by Stainer & Bell of London in 1918. In contrast so many of the on-demand scores now available, this one comes with all the pages and the images have been thoroughly checked to make sure it is readable, is beautifully printed on off-white stock with a quality cover.
The matching full score, orchestra parts and study score are also available from Serenissima Music.

Description:
Foote's 20-minute gem was actually pieced together from a couple of earlier, unpublished string orchestra works: three movements from the 1886 Suite in E major, Op.12; and two movements from the 1889 Suite in D major, Op.21. In 1891, the composer re-worked these into the present five-movement work which was given its premiere by the Baltimore Symphony in January 1893. This new study score is a digitally-enhanced reprint of the one issued by Arthur P. Schmidt in 1892.

Description:
This is a new, digitally enhanced reissue of the score originally issued in 1936 by Edition Suecia. Stenhammar began work on what many consider to be his finest orchestral work while on vacationing in Italy in 1911. The Serenade was completed two years later and given its premiere under the composer's baton in Stockholm in January 1914. Revisions were made a few years later and the final version was premiered in Gothenburg in 1920. While unmistakably Scandinavian, Stenhammar's music often takes a more lyrical and classical approach than his fellow Scandinavians Sibelius and Nielsen. The Serenade is widely considered to be the finest example of the Swedish composer's style.

Description:
Dubois' oratorio was given its premiere on Good Friday (April 19), 1867 at Église de la Madeleine in Paris under the composer's direction. Although first published in 1886 by Georges Hartmann of Paris, the vocal score presented here is a digitally enhanced reprint of the one first produced in 1899 by G. Schirmer of New York, with an English translation beneath the original Latin text by Theodore Baker (1851-1934). This score has been carefully reviewed, with measure numbers and rehearsal letters added. It is now completely compatible with the widely available full score and orchestral parts issued Luck's and IMSLP. The large (A4) size makes it particularly easy to read for choruses both at both professional and community levels.

Description:
Dvorak's second set of Slavonic Dances was composed in response to a request from his German publisher, N. Simrock, in the wake of the tremendous popularity of the first set (Op.46). The brilliant orchestration of the melodious, folk-inspired dances did much to establish Dvorak's reputation as a major orchestral composer. The new study score offered here is a digitally-enhanced reprint of the score first issued in 1955 as part of the Dvorak complete works by the Czech State publishing house SNKLHU, edited by Otakar Sourek. Available now for the first time in an affordable, easy-to-read size.

Description:
Erik Satie's "drame symphonique" was composed on a commission from the Princess Edmond de Polignac. Satie based his text on selections from the Plato works Symposium, Phaedrus, and Phaedo which mention the Greek philospher in the French translation by Victor Cousin. The work was first performed at the salon of Pricess de Polignac in April of 1918 with soprano Jane Bathori singing all four roles and the composer at the piano. This new vocal score, produced in an easy-to-read format, is a digitally enhanced reprint of the one first issued in 1919 by Editions de la Sirene in Paris. Also included is an English translation of the relevant sections from Plato prepared by Benjamin Jowett.

Description:
Unlike Bach's other oratorio compositions, there is no definitive version of the St. John Passion. The first version of 1724 which is today's standard version represents a mixture of different readings. The second version of 1725 was performed under the direction of Bach himself and can therefore be considered authentic. In addition to a change in order of several movements, the second version differs from the earlier version by the use of the opening chorus "O Mensch, bewein".
The performance material corresponds to the Urtext edition of the 1725 version which was recently published as part of the Neue Bach Ausgabe (NBArev).

Description:
Mendelssohn's first great excursion into the genre of oratorio was first performed in 1836 in Düsseldorf at a festival. Set to a libretto by Julius Schubring based on the Bible, it soon gained considerable popularity in England, which resulted in his famous second oratorio, Elijah. The definitive vocal score reprinted here, edited by the German musicologist Alfred Dörffel, with a piano reduction prepared by the composer's student August Horn, features both the original German and the subsequent English text. First issued around 1890 by C.F. Peters, this digitally-enhanced reissue has been enlarged to a very readable A4 size, with measure numbers and rehearsal letters added.

Description:
Dvorak's 95-minute Stabat Mater received its premiere two days before Christmas of 1880 in Prague. It quickly gained a following not only in Europe but in both England and the USA. The vocal score was prepared by Josef Zubaty for the initial publication and was re-engraved by G. Schirmer in 1897 - which is the basis of the present score. With added measure numbers and rehearsal systems to match the widely available public domain orchestral parts, this large A4 digitally-enhanced reprint is an ideal score for vocal soloists, choruses and directors.
