Description:
Three pages [17 July, 1874]. Superb letter written by Frederick Sandys, famed Pre-Raphaelite painter, illustrator and draughtsman, who was closely allied with the PRB to William Michael Rossetti. "1 Spenser Street, Victoria Street- Friday. My dear Rossetti, I had a note from Gabriel saying he was coming to town for a day or two and would call if possible. I write to you not knowing quite where a note would find him- to say he must come- I have a portrait of a fearful old woman I want him to see and tell me about- I want you to see it also- will you come any day before Wednesday... There is an awful lot of work in the picture in fact it consist entirely of caps- cap strings and white stomacher- Do come- and pray communicate my most earnest desire to Gabriel. Your faithfully, Fredrk. Sandys. My place is a new red brick House- by Large and Small coach-buildings.

Described by the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography as "the most significant and prolific British women sculptor before Barbara Hepworth,î while her traditional style of sculpture and her hostility to the abstract work of Henry Moore, and others, contributed toward a subsequent lack of… Read More

Description:
London: William Tait, 1846. First edition. First edition. Scarce original publisher's red pebbled cloth with gilt lettering and florets on spine, original yellow endsheets. Hafl-title present. Presentation, inscribed by the author on half-title: "Mary Armstrong, from the Author." This copy does not contain the illustrations. Near the end of the press run, the publisher actually ran out of illustrations, but continued publication, adding copies that did not contain the illustrations. No priority as relates to issue or state has been determined whether the book contains the illustrations or not. Curiously, contains the holograph corrections on p.11, but the correction on p.63 is truncated, only crossing out the word "formed" and and adding the word "and" just after "Things arcane:" Laid in are two woodcuts of the same image by Scott, from his estate, from his 1854 book, "Poems of a Painter," passed down to William Fredeman. Near fine. Scarce thus.
