Description:
[n.p., Mexico City: El taller de Luis López-Loza, 1976] One of thirty copies signed and numbered by the artist. . Accordion bound in yellow paper boards titled in black and printed with an illustration of the Sarcophagus of Sennedjem. . 5 x 9 in. Ten panels, unfolding to about 50 in. Six etchings with aquatint and carborundum print accents. Letterpress printed on Arches paper. Pencil gift inscription by the author ("Para Javier Friedlander [?] con todo cariño, de Luis López"), dated January 1977, to preliminary blank. Some offsetting from etchings. A near-fine copy. The etchings capture different perspectives on the Sarcophagus of Sennedjem, which was found in the necropolis of Deir el-Medina on the West Bank at Luxor in 1886. The sarcophagus itself features scenes from the Book of the Dead. Luis López Loza's (b. 1939) designs recall bones and organs, rendered abstractly, as if the viewer were looking through the lid of the sarcophagus to the body inside.

Boston: James Munroe and Company, 1845 First edition. Brown cloth stamped and ruled in blind. Spine gilt lettered. Small octavo. Cloth discolored. Spine faded. Binding extremities rubbed and slightly frayed. Hinges starting. Intermittent foxing. A good copy. Lydia Huntley Sigourney (1791-1865) was a poet and educator. In addition to writing, she encouraged powerful members of society to act beneficially on the behalf of slaves, Native Americans, the mentally ill, and others. She married Charles Sigourney in 1819 and began anonymously publishing her work because her husband feared his reputation would be tarnished if it were discovered that his wife was a poet. Some of Sigourney's other works include Traits of the Aborigines of America (1822) and Zinzendorff and Other Poems (1833), which focused on the plight of the Indian. Eventually, she published under her own name and became successful. With the publication of Poems (1834), she was hailed as "the female Milton." Sigourney traveled to Europe and… Read More

Description:
London: Printed for the Author [n.d., ca. 1787] Stated second edition "With very considerable Additions." The first edition, published in 1785 and recorded in ESTC in five copies, has two sets of pagination ending on p. 264 and p. 124, so the present edition is clearly longer. ESTC lists three different "second editions, with very considerable additions" and the same imprint as the copy with similar but not identical collations, which it estimates to have been published in "1790?" It also lists a "third edition with considerable additions," with a dated title-page of 1787. Obviously, if the 1787 date on the title-page of the third edition is correct, the date of the second edition cannot be 1790. ESTC also lists an edition published in 1796. All of these editions are very scarce. Contemporary marbled boards, recently rebacked in calf with gilt-lettered red morocco spine label. Octavo. With second half-title for the second part.
