Montpellier: Chez l'Artiste, 1947. A beautifully-produced tribute to Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert: the site, the abbey, the cloister (now at the Cloisters in New York), and the hero-saint himself. Illustrated with a suite of 24 full-page hors-texte plates, heliogravures entirely reworked as etchings (by Dufresne after Christian), printed in sepia and blue. These etchings depict dramatic landscapes of the valley and architectural and artistic features of the abbey. From a total edition of 924 copies, this is one of a few hors-commerce copies printed on "papier de grand luxe": in this case, fine BFK Rives wove paper. Folio. Loose as issued in original wraps. Tiny wisps of wear to wraps, else uncut, unopened, fine and bright.

Errata slip tipped in at end. ONE OF VERY FEW LARGE PAPER COPIES, PRINTED ON FINE WOVE PAPER. 4to. Attractively bound in half crushed morocco, top edge gilt. Light wear to binding, faint marginal stains to chromolithographed plate, else very clean. Overall a very good copy.

New York: W.T.B. Publishing, 1981. A portfolio of six numbered and mounted photographs by Hennessy. All of the photographs depict the beach. Two include nude female figures. Signed by Hennessy under title, and additionally warmly inscribed and signed by him in 1983. Number 150 of 200 sets. Large folio, original linen portfolio with leather label, fine.

Sitges / Barcelona: Ediciones Maspe, 1952. FIRST EDITION of this bizarre look at the work and persona of Salvador Dali. The author, Miquel Utrillo, was the son of an important Catalan artist (also named Miquel Utrillo) and the stepbrother of far better-known French artist Maurice Utrillo. ONE OF ONLY 50 NUMBERED COPIES ON SPECIAL PAPER, SIGNED BY DALI (very boldly, with a brush and black ink wash) AND UTRILLO. Numerous photographs of Dali and his work. 4to. Original wraps, Wrap-around band preserved. Light wear to wraps, otherwise fine and bright. An important book, and very rare in this pristine state.

Thus also the FIRST EDITION OF VIRTUALLY ALL OF THE SURVIVING CORPUS OF MIDDLE HIGH GERMAN POETRY. Includes the work of 140 poets, including Walther von der Vogelweide, Reinmar der Alte, Gottfried von Strassburg, Hartmann von Aue, Niedhart von Reuenthal, Kaiser Heinrich, and Reinmar der Zweite. 4to. Attractively bound in contemporary calf. Spine gilt in six compartments, with raised bands. Some wear to binding, but structurally solid. Internally FINE AND BRIGHT. Brunet III, 1362; Graesse IV, 362. Very important and very rare, especially in such good condition.

FIRST COMPLETE EDITION of the first history of the Church in Liege, written by the first historian to focus on that city. [24], 334, [73]; 408, [40] pp. The first part had originally been published in 1642; the second part appears here for the first time. Beautifully printed on very fine paper. Title-page in red and black. Woodcut ornaments throughout, including a wonderful large printer's device on the last page. Extensive chronological tables at the end of each part. Folio. Contemporary calf, spine nicely gilt in seven compartments with raised bands. Some general wear to binding, but tight and still attractive. Internally FINE AND BRIGHT, with no defects.

Paris: printed by Jules Didot for Delangle and Dalibon, 1824. Two volumes, complete. A beautifully-produced edition of this classic, printed by Didot on very good French laid paper. Complete with all 9 plates by the Johannot Brothers and others after Deveria. Large 8vo. ENTIRELY UNCUT IN THE ORIGINAL BOARDS. Some superficial scratching to boards, sunning to spine, and a little bit of damage to spine ends. Internally, a little spotting. Still, structurally sound and a very good set overall. Carteret, p. 550; Vicaire VII, 388. A noteworthy illustrated book of the Romantic period.

Berlin: Morawe & Scheffelt, 1921. NUMBER ONE OF ONLY TEN SETS OF THIS OUTSTANDING PORTFOLIO OF EXPRESSIONIST ETCHINGS, WITH MANY OF THE ETCHINGS PRINTED ON OLD JAPANESE PAPER. In 1918 German novelist Hans Bethge wrote "Satuila oder vom Zauber der Suedsee" ("Satuila or the Enchantment of the South Sea"), the story of a young woman in Samoa. It is a sensual, escapist tale: the situation in Germany was quite terrible after the defeat in WWI, and there was great demand for escapism. This novel was a hit, and a deluxe edition, with 6 original etchings by German Expressionist artist Georg Alexander Mathey, was published in Berlin in 1921. The etchings are extremely beautiful, perfectly capturing the lush sensuality of the landscape and the unabashed sexuality of the characters (similar to the depictions of Gypsies by Otto Mueller, from about the same time).
