Hand-coloured tinted lithograph after Raffet, printed by Auguste Bry, 533 x 342mm; slightly creased at edges andwith short tear, otherwise a very good, professionally cleaned and fresh example. This is a plate issued in the very rare work by André Durand, Voyage pittoresque et archéologique en Russie: exécuté en 1839 sous la direction de M. Anatole de Démidoff (1840-47). The standard issue of this monumental work was not coloured, this plate comes from the coloured de luxe issue, printed on high-quality linen rag wove paper. The Admiralty building is one of St. Petersburg's most conspicuous landmarks and was designed in finest Russian Empire style by Andreyan Zakharov.

Original blue cloth with illustrated dust-wrapper; pp. 461, [3], plates after photographs, illustrations in the text after drawings, fold-out map at rear; cloth a little dulled, wrapper with small marginal flaw; title and following leaf a bit spotted due to offsetting from frontispiece; a good copy in the rarely seen dust-wrapper. Scarce first edition of a classic of Polynesian anthropology. Harrisson (1911-1976) started as a young ornithologist leading Oxford expeditions to Norwegian Lapland (1931), and, in 1932, to Sarawak, northern Borneo. After he had finished writing this book he founded the Mass Observation programme, which was to change British anthropolgy and sociology for ever. Original green cloth, upper board blocked in gilt with vignette of Australian aborigine, spine lettered in gilt; pp. xi, 184; 48 photographic plates after Aiston, one folding map printed in blue and black, text illustration and printed music in the text; extremitieis with very light rubbing, ligh brow spotting at beginning and end, otherwise a very good copy. First edition. A study of the Wonkonguru people and their neighbours in the region east of Lake Eyre. Aiston had twenty years of experience as a mounted trooper among the desert tribes. The authors were resident in the area and based their studies on those of Spencer and Gillen, the former of whom read the book in manuscript.

Original dark green cloth pictorially blocked in black and white to spine and upper cover with a design featuring a pair of Pacific Islander clubs, lettered in gilt; top edges gilt; pp. xii + 211; with 68 coloured plates protected by captioned tissue-guards and a folding map to the rear, printed in sepia; a very nearly fine copy in uncommonly bright and sharp condition with minor bruising to spine ends and a tiny (3mm) scuff to upper cover, internally fine, fresh, and unspotted. First edition. Includes descriptions of British New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and the New Hebrides. According to Inman, the book was published in blue cloth, but of the 3000 copies printed, 2300 were bought as remainders and bound in green cloth. Inman A & C Black Colour Books 74. Reportedly this is the best read in the whole Twenty Shilling Series, with a very engaging text.

Original blue cloth-backed portfolio with cloth ties containing 8 page booklet and 48 unbound b&w photographic plates; portfolio a little rubbed, very good. First edition. Scarce. Lee Lawrie (1877-1963) is one of the foremost figures in American architectural sculpture. He worked on some of the most noted early twentieth century buildings in the United States, including the Rockefeller Center in New York, the Nebraska State Capitol, Los Angeles Public Library and the National Academy of Sceinces in Washington D.C., all of which are depicted in these plates. These buildings were mostly developed in association with the architects Cram and Goodhue. His work developed from modern Gothic through Classicism to a kind of Art Deco, and all of these styles are represented here.

A set of 11 8 x 10 inch black and white original single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photograhs from the 1936 film Secret Agent. One photograph with staple pin holes in margins and signs of being mounted on paper at some stage otherwise in near fine condition. Based on Somerset Maugham's Ashenden stories and directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Secret Agent starred Peter Lorre, John Gielgud and Madeleine Carroll. These photographs include two very striking portraits of Peter Lorre as the "Hairless Mexican", and a group shot of Hitchcock, Lorre, Carroll and Robert Young. First edition. A splendidly produced catalogue of the coin collection assembled by the Dutch numismatist Jacob de Wilde. He collected as well medals, antique statues, and scientific instruments.
