A former owner has stamped a red "K" on the front free end paper, and -- 2. the rear end paper is rippled as though someone removed a card pocket. The illustrated covers are bright, with light rubs at edges and corners. The front bottom flap of the dust jacket is clipped, but the upper corner retains the UK and USA prices. The jacket shows light wear, but no rips, chips or damage. l Synopsis: This is a small format picture book, telling the story of Samuel, a toy duckling made of plush, and his friends.

The red and green covers are bright, showing next to no wear. The dust jacket is not clipped, and is in very good condition, with minor edgewear and one small (1/4") nick to the top of the spine. The dust jacket is now in a protective plastic cover. This is a large-format picture book, and because my scanner is not large enough to show the whole thing I have scanned the spine (to show the nick) and most of the front cover. The stitching holding the binding together has broken, and the signatures are loose and pulling apart, and the illustrated covers show wear and rubs at all edges and corners. The book is priced below our usual minimum in the hope that someone will value this book and want to own it. A careful reader could still read the book without doing more damage, or it could be put in the hands of a bookbinder to replace the stitching.

A former owner has written his name on the front free end paper, and there is a stamp from the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey just opposite. The green cloth covers show light wear and some colour change at the edge of the boards.

London: Oxford University Press, 1963. Soft cover. Very Good +. 7.75 x 6. This is one of the marvellous "People of the Past" series edited by Philippa Pearce and published by Oxford University Press. Each book in the series combines a story based on an episode from English history with detailed black and white drawings. It's a perfect introduction to history for children at the senior public level, and can be read with interest by adults. This copy is in excellent condition, with very little wear. Synopsis: The evening of the day that Robert Philips finished his blacksmith's apprenticeship, he told his mother and uncle he was heading to Portsmouth, to join the Navy. Everyone knew that the life of a seaman in 1805 was hard, brutal and unhealthy, but Robert's father had served in the Navy, and Robert was determined. This is the story of his first months in the service, and his part in the Battle of Trafalgar.

This is a well-worn ex-library copy (Commonwealth of Australia Overseas Library Service), with all the normal library marks and additions, as well as serious fading to the boards, and a nearly detached, faded spine, held in place by tape. However, the text is clean and complete, and the accompanying map is still attached to the rear board. This is a usable reading copy, but no more.
