Strand, London, 1893. First thus. Hardcover. Good. This scarce original edition is offered despite some significant flaws. Six complete original issues bound without covers and advertisements. A good, generally clean, sturdy, hardcover copy overall with moderate exterior shelf wear and rubbing at the corners, foxing and soiling to the cover cloth and fore-edges, front hinge cracked but secure, with several early pages loosened and light foxing to the endpapers and scattered throughout. Description:
Paris, France: Ludovic Baschet, 1892. First Edition. Hardcover. Good minus. French text. Number 144 of a limited edition on fine paper. Folio, 13" tall, 108 pages (text) plus 73 full page plates of 77 listed (4 plates missing) decorative beige cloth. A good copy only, internally good +, paper cream white with scattered light foxing primarily at the margins, a few marginal dampstains not affecting text, BUT binding is completely broken, front cover loose, worn, frayed and stained, back cover and backstrip cloth missing. Covers of soft cover edition bound in (French books of the period are often published simultaeously in soft and hard cover editions ). Includes intertextual vignette illustrations of artists. Approximately seven illustrations have been cut out from the pages. Because of damage already done, this is probably just a breaking copy, but the gravures are quite bright and clear. Overseas shipping cost is prohibitive.
