New York: National Temperance Society and Publication House, [n.d., circa late 1860's or early 1870's]. Near fine. One sheet (approximately 8" x 6 ") folded into a 4-page pamphlet. The first page includes a wood cut illustration of a girl caught in a snow storm, signed by engraver John D. Felter. Above and to the right of the wood cut is also printed "No. 11. "Founded in 1865, the National Temperance Society and Publication House was organized primarily to publish and circulate temperance literature throughout the U. S. This particular tract was written by the journalist and temperance reformer, George Bungay, who spins a tale of a young girl pulling her drunk father out of a bar. The accompanying illustration was engraved and signed by John D. Felter. There is also a second tale about a woman who starts drinking wine and ends up on a downward path to hard liquor. Worldcat locates just one copy in U. S. libraries.
