This stated first printing is basically clean, tight, square with sharp corners in a very good dust jacket. It is lightly rubbed at the edges and there is a faint stain at the base of the spine. The dust jacket has light edge wear. It has a one-quarter binding with blue/gray cloth and black & yellow titles on the spine. The pictorial boards are blue. There is a small tape ghost on each paste down and it has 247, bright, clear pages.

There is a pencil name an date (1896) on the black end papers (and therefore hard to see); otherwise it is unmarked. It is rubbed, surface and edges, noticeable at the ends of the spine and corners. The boards are covered in brown cloth with black designs. the titles on the spine and front are gold. It has 231, bright, clear pages, red edged all around.

This book is clean, tight and square with good corners, There are two inscriptions and a date (1884) on the front end papers; otherwise it is unmarked. The 1850 date is the latest publication date on the copies of the various allegories, all of which have their own title pages and publication information. The edges are rubbed. The text block is bright and clear, but there is some foxing. It has a few illustrations. It has a three-quarter binding with black leather on the spine and corners edged with gilt over black pebbled cloth on the boards. The titles on the spine are gold. There are multiple gold bands on the spine and the allegories are individually paginated.

Very Good/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. These three book are clean, tight, square and internally unmarked, but each front paste down has an 1830 name on it. They are mildly bumped at the corners except for the top front of vol. 3 which is chipped and lightly rubbed at the tops of the spines. There is a short split front joint top on vol. 2. The page edges are a bit uneven. They have 316, 331, 382, bright, clear pages with rare foxing in a one-quarter binding with red leather (?) and gold titles and lines on the spine. Each has a tissue guarded frontispiece and a pictorial half title page. The boards are the original brown paper and age darkened. There are 6 pages of ads at the end of volume 3 and there is a page of ads a he fron of vol. 1.

This edition may be a version pirated by Lovell, Coryell and published (based on the publishers address) around 1893, 1894, but no later than 1897. It has been rebound in boards covered in green cloth without external titles. The book is clean, tight, square with good corners and internally unmarked. One of the original title pages, wit a name at the top, has been pasted on a new end paper. Two of the original end papers have a closed tear at the spine. It is lightly rubbed at the edges and has 300, bright, clear pages.
