Light wear and a crease to the spine, a few pencil marginalia, else a very good coy. The is the French original of a lost Elizabethan translation. Merlin fashions a giant, Grand-gosier, from the blood of Lancelot's wounds and the bones of a whale; he fashions his mate, Gallemelle, form the bones of a female whale and the parings of Guinevere's finger nails. Their son is Gargantua, who becomes the mightiest of Arttyhur's warriors. In French. with glossary. Inspiration for Rabelais. Arthurian Encyclopedia, p. 176-177.

London: G. G. Harrap & Co, 1913. Limited edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Illustrated by Williy Pogany. 4to. Illustrated throughout in both black and white and color by Pogany. This copy bound in the somewhat scarce publisher's brown leather, spine intricately gilt and with the title and illustration on the upper board, as in the more common vellum and morocco bindings. Illustrated endpapers. Top edge gilt. Light wear to the inner hinges else this is a fine copy with only a trace of sunning to the spine. One of 525 copies signed by Pogany, of which this is number 272. Lohengrin comes to us courtesy of Wolfram von Eschenbach, where is is described as the son of Sir Perceval (Parzifal). When Parzifal becomes the Grail King, Lohengrin becomes the Grail Knight, and his twin inherits Parzifal's secular lands.

New York: Frederick Warne & Co, 1910. Early US Edition. Hardcover. Good. 1910. 85pp. 4 by 5-3/4 inches. Wine maroon boards with hexagonal colored paste-on on front board. Lettered in white. First American edition variant: the address for Warne is given as 36 East 22d St. Earlier than Quinby's 18A. The earliest edition in Quinby is listed as published between 1913 and 1918. This copy must have been printed in 1910 as Warne was at the 36 East 22d St. address only through 1910. This endpapers in this issue are the same as those of the English first edition, cf. Quinby #18, Plate X , rather than Plate XII as called for in #18A except they are reversed with Peter Rabbit on the front free endpaper instead of on the pastedown. Spine totally perished; boards worn at edges; else a good copy and with no attempt at restoration; protected in a custom clamshell box.

Collector's Edition. 8vo. 179,(1)pp. Simulated leather, spine with raised bands, silver-colored metal corners, center metal skull vignette and metal clasp, all with blue stones. Ribbon marker. Protected in a maroon velvet string-top bag, bearing the embroidered signature of J. K. Rowling in gilt thread, the whole housed in a book-shaped clamshell case blocked in blind on the upper and lower boards, and on the spine in gilt. The case is shaped within with a recessed compartment to fit the book in its velvet bag. Also within in their own printed envelope are ten 7 by 10 inch Collector's Edition Prints which slip into a special flap in the upper board. A new copy, still in the original white slipcase cover, encased in clear plastic and in the original shipping box.

Hazelton. 8vo. 216pp. Light brown cloth blocked in dark blue on the spine and upper board. Pictorial endpapers. Colorful bookplate (showing a bookworm dressed as Holmes with its book) on the front pastedown, tape mark on the front free endpaper else this is a fine copy. The dustwrapper is clipped, and is rough along the edges. It also is lightly stained, more so on the reverse, but what appears to be residue form an old jacket protector. But it still gives a very good appearance. The front flap lists the Ted Scott Flying Stories, ending with 'Castaways of the Stratosphere'. The rear flap is a review of Ted Copp's 'The Mystery of Devil's Hand', and the rear panel cites air combat stories by Burtis, Adams and Avery. Rare.
