Written by Ramsey when he was a member of the Tottenham Hotspur side that won the old First Division in 1951. Ramsey, of course, went on to manage England to their greatest-ever triumph at the World Cup in 1966. Signed by Sir Alf Ramsey in blue fountain pen ink on the front free end-paper: "Best Wishes/ Alf Ramsey". Ramsey's signature is quite elusive

A neat name and date on the FFEP and a name in pencil (now erased) crossed out in ink on the front paste-down. A VG copy. In the uncommon D/W priced 7/6 net to the inside flap (as called for). The D/W has a touch of wear to the extremities and a triangular chip at the base of the spine removing the H of "H & S" and the "HODDER and ST" of Hodder and Stoughton. Scans invited.

First book and winner of the 2006 Costa Book Award (formerly the Whitbread Prize). This author has done NO public signings and signed copies are thus genuinely scarce. A compelling mixture of adventure, murder, mystery, romance and story-telling set in Canada in 1867. Quercus is making a bit of a habit of unearthing top writing talent and this author is cerainly one to watch. One for the Pension Fund!

Overall a lovely copy of the first Nye Tredgold western and exceedingly uncommon. Nigel Tranter (1909-2000) was a Scottish historian and author, and writing under the pseudonym Nye Tredgold (Tredgold was his fathers middle name) produced some Westerns to provide additional income.
