One of the poet's famous "Butterfly Books" that he printed himself on a handpress. This is copy number 3 out of a total edition of forty-four; copies 1-10, as here, bound in paper from Hannover. Prokosch has inscribed this copy at the front with a Christmas wish to Josephine Crane, wealthy New York socialite and hostess of a long-running literary salon in her Fifth Avenue apartment. Laid in is a brief autograph letter signed by Prokosch to Mrs. Crane, written from the American embassy in Paris and announcing his pending arrival in New York.
