Handwritten instructions along with completed pieces of work, pinned in to the pages. A wonderful example of the various home economics courses that made up most high school curriculum in the 1950's - 1970's.

Buenos Aires, 1934. Hardcover. Blue cloth covered boareds, embossed title in gilt. Very good. Oblong folio (21.6 x 36 cm.) Six unumbered pages with 13 samples (of 14). These "Lingerie" samples show intricate needlework, each about 16.5 x 16.5 cm. - including a small circular stamp, or the Academia, behind each sample. Owner's handwritten title page with school stamp. Interior clean, boards rubbed.

c. 1930. 32 x 25 cm. closed - 49 x 32 cm. opened. Unique handmade folder housing the work of a tailor, most likely the sample pieces for a customer's jacket. Four garments, four patterns. The first garment is the anatomy of the collar and the interior pocket of a jacket. The second garment is a detailed example of button holes and pockets. The third garment is the outside structure of the a cuff, and the fourth garment represents the detail of design, most likely on the front of the jacket. The four patterns are hand drawn in pencil. All of these items are housed in a homemade, sewn, folder - sewn at the edges. The name - Philomene Rodier is hand written on most of the garments.

A full Thanksgiving menu with all the fix in's along with cigars and cigarettes. Staff and officers listed on two pages. The rear cover states: "Did you think this time last year that we would be feeding Fritz and the Allied Nations? we have the Bacon and the Rhine, too, but we must share the BACON." Covers soiled.

Located in the iconic Merchants Exchange Building, the San Francisco Commercial Club was the location where city leaders and businessmen met to socialize and address the issues of the day. Julia Morgan, the first licensed female architect in California and the first female architect to graduate from the École de Beaux-Arts in Paris was tapped to redesign and rebuild the damaged interior after the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906. Two menus are features in this beautiful illustrated, shaped pamphlet. One menu, a Buffet, features Lobster Salad, Salmon Striped Bass, Langouste, Aspic de Foie Gras, Fillet of Beef, Goose, Truffled Turkey, and Suckling Pig. The established menu features Green Turtle soup, Sandabs, Virginia Ham, Larded Beef Tenderloin, Turkey, Pies, Fruit, and Cheese. Built in 1786, The Lancaster House (also known as Lancaster Hotel or Lancaster Inn) was located on the east side of Maine Street just north of the First Church. The stately building was four stories high, with piazzas on three sides and a front balcony. The building burned down in 1906. Folded paper, with embossed flowers in top left corner. Two folds discernible, not affecting text.

THEPURE Cook Book, compiled by the owner and principal of the Greater New York Cooking School, Gesine Lemcke, was obtained by customers of THEPURE Baking Powder, as the footnotes instruct, by sending in their name and address to the company with three two cent stamps enclosed. Inside are hundreds of recipes utilizing the cream of tartar based baking powder, alongside slanderous claims about their competing phosphate-based baking powders and endorsements of the products. THEPURE Baking Power’s name is an interesting sign of the beginnings of brand marketing, in the way it confronts the claims of wholesomeness and purity from other brands on the market.
