Description:
New York: Condé Nast Publications. October 1970 - January 1971. First Edition. Digest-size Magazine. Very Good+. Gordon R. Dickson's novel The Tactics of Mistake first appeared in print when it was serialized in the October, November, December 1970 and January 1971 issues of Analog Science Fiction / Science Fact with two cover illustrations (October & December) and eleven interior illustrations by Kelly Freas. It is part of Dickson's Childe Cycle series, in which mankind has reached the stars and divided into specialized splinter groups. The fourth book written, it is chronologically the second book of the cycle, occurring roughly a century after Necromancer, and a century before Dorsai!. The key theme is the development of the Dorsai culture, and the creation of the Dorsai military model which makes their soldiers the best among all the settled worlds. It also shows the growth of the separate planetary cultures and their evolution to independence from Earth.

Chattanooga, Tennessee: CreateSpace. Trade Paperback. September 2016. As New. Not from a library. No remainder mark. 76 pages. A small group of people on the Caribbean island of Carriacou, in the nation of Grenada, still identifies with the Temne people of Sierra Leone, West Africa. Although more than 200 years have passed since the last enslaved Africans were taken to Carriacou, the members of that group still call themselves "Temnes," and still remember their ancient homeland in Africa. This is the story of how the "Temne Nation" of Carriacou managed to preserve the memory of its origin in a small place in Africa. It describes the events that led to a "Temne Reunion" in 2016 when Sierra Leone Temnes and Carriacou Temnes will meet for the first time.

Description:
Normal, Illinois: Dalkey Archive Press. Trade Paperback. 2003. As New. First English Edition (stated). Not a remainder. 221 pp.A biting critique of book publishing: agents, subagents, and scouts, supermarket-like bookstores, Joan Collins, book fairs that have little to do with books, authors promoted because of sex appeal instead of merit, and editors trying to look like writers by having their photograph taken against a background of bookshelves. One of the most interesting and paradoxical comparisons coming out of Ugresic's dissection of book culture is the similarity between the art of socialist realism (as prescribed by the Soviets) and the nature of contemporary marketplace to produce and promote art that appeals to everyone.

New York: Penguin / Riverhead, May 2007. Hardcover. First Edition / full number line. As New. Pristine inside and out. No remainder mark. Not damaged. 372 pages. Born a generation apart and with very different ideas about love and family, Mariam and Laila are two women brought jarringly together by war, by loss and by fate. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them-in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul-they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation. With heart-wrenching power and suspense, Hosseini shows how a woman's love for her family can move her to shocking and heroic acts of self-sacrifice, and that in the end it is love, or even the memory of love, that is often the key to survival.
