London: London: Printed for John Murray, Albemarle Street, 1814. Full leather. Good. Three works in one volume; octavo; [viii],75, [i]pp; xi, 108pp; [iv], 71, [i]pp. In contemporary full calf with gilt rolls to board edges (front board detached, spine rubbed with minor loss of leather at head and foot, spine label missing), marbled page edges, matching marbled endpapers, very occasional unobtrusive spots and browning, neat early ink ownership name to opening blank, otherwise clean and unmarked, complete with half titles to Giaour and Corsair. A collection of early editions of these popular Byron classics, still attractive despite its tired binding.

York and London: York: Thomas Wilson, High Ousegate. (and:) London: A.Millar et al, 1791. Full leather. Good. Two early examples of Walkingame's Tutor's Assistant; the 26th edition printed by A.Millar, London 1791; and Crosby's 'New Edition' printed in York, 1815. The London edition in original eighteenth century full leather, well worn and soiled, with an abundance of early ink inscriptions, lacking free endpapers and the folding frontispiece table, otherwise complete. The York edition complete with folding table, boards stained and somewhat warped, paper rather browned, early inscriptions to endpapers and early booksellers label to front pastedown ('Deighton, Bookseller and Stationer, 53 High Street, Worcester'). Two early working copies of this popular manual of arithmetic.

London: Henry Colburn, 1829. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. First edition, octavo, three volumes; 315, 319, 356pp. In contemporary half leather over marbled boards (a little worn), four raised spine bands, gilt lettered red morocco title labels to second compartments, remaining compartments richly gilt. Spotting and staining to early and closing leaves of each volume, author's name inscribed to title page, first quire of vol.1 misbound, otherwise a very good clean copy. Attractive copy of St.Leger's increasingly uncommon final novel, the last before his untimely death at the age of thirty following an epileptic seizure.

London: London: Longman, Hurst, Rees and Orme, 1808. Half leather. Very Good. Collection of separately paginated dramatic works issued as Vol. 10 of Inchbald's's British Theatre, each play with its own title page and frontispiece; 12mo, in contemporary early nineteenth century half calf (somewhat worn with very minor loss to extremities, early owners ink inscription to front pastedown, a few leaves misbound and protruding slightly at fore-edge but still well bound in). Occasional spotting and paper browning but overall a very good copy.

Strasbourg: Argentinae: Ex officina Martini Flach junioris, 1501. Half leather. Fine. Folio, printed in Strassburg by Martin Flach, 7 February 1501; 161 unnumbered leaves. BINDING: new Gothic hand-sewn oak binding by Arthur Green of Malvern; tawed quarter leather over quarter-sawn oak boards, quires hand-sewn on four double-cords creating four raised spine bands, board leather blind-tooled with period style rosettes and fleurs-de-lys within panel of diagonal blind triple fillets, hand-sewn Gothic double headbands of alternate hand-dyed indigo and undyed linen thread, hand-made brass hasps and clasps ornamented in period style; an exceptionally attractive recreation of a Gothic hand-sewn binding employing medieval techniques contemporaneous with the date the book was printed. COLLATION: [pi]6, a2-8, b-y6, z8, zeta6, antisigma8; leaf a1 excised and subsequent first few lines of a2[recto] redacted in black ink in the sixteenth century by the inquisitor for its heretical content (see below). First edition, octavo, three volumes; 310, 350, 326pp. In contemporary red straight-grain half morocco over marbled boards (very lightly worn, spines faded), four raised spine bands between double gilt fillets, gilt titles and volume numbers to second and fourth compartments respectively. Early heraldic ownership label to front pastedowns and ink ownership name to title-pages, without half-titles, unobtrusive very light foxing to opening and closing leaves of each volume. A very attractive copy of this historical novel by Shelley's friend and financial advisor, Horace Smith, poet, novelist and stockbroker. Sadleir 328-9.

New endpapers, professional inner marginal repairs to first four leaves, unobtrusive occasional spots and browning, old ownership name to opening blank, overall a clean example. Sound and attractive copy of a scarce edition; ESTC T87869, citing 4xUK and 3xUS institutional locations.

Very Good. 12mo; [vi], [314 hymns, not paginated], [1], [4]pp. In recent full brown cloth with gilt spine title, new endpapers, original opening blank bound in, bearing a contemporary owners inscription, owners inscription and two old ink stamps to title page, unobtrusive very light browning, overall a clean and attractive copy. This edition bears no date but its paper, typeface and inscriptions put it approximately between 1850 and 1860, and certainly no later than 1871.

First edition, octavo, three volumes; xx, 288; 311; 308pp. In contemporary half calf over marbled boards (with light wear only), spines divided into five compartments by double gilt fillets, gilt lettered titles and volume numbers to second and fourth compartments respectively, all page edges marbled, half titles present, small bookselller's and early ownership labels to front pastedowns, very minor loss to front pastedown of volume three probably through label removal, light creasing to first few pages of volume three, unobtrusive spotting to opening and closing leaves of each volume, overall a very good clean copy. Hood's only novel was published the same year as the abolition of slavery and is centered on Walter Tyrell, born in St.Kitts and raised in Georgian society by Sir Mark Tyrell with all the trials and tribulations of racial prejudice this brings.
