Description:
NP: np, 1800. Small broadside, 24 x 16 cm., printed in various sizes and styles of type. Thumb sized chip to left margin, not affecting text. This performance, presumably referencing Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "Hiawatha" published in November 1855, mentions the poem's heroine Minnehaha [here spelled with only one "n"]. The popularity of the work spawned many musical and artistic adaptations. In Longfellow's poem her character was depicted as a Dakota, living along the shore of Lake Superior, however, not as a Penobscot. We have been unable to determine where this broadside was published.
