The original edition in German, also issued in 1785, under the title "Kurzgefasste Beschreibung der drei Schlesischen Kriege zur Erklarung einter Kupfertafel auf Welcher, sechs und zwanzig Schlachten und Hauptgefechte abgebildet sind," was accompanied by a large folding plate at the rear which included all the various battle plans mentioned. NP: np, 1800. Small broadside, 24 x 16 cm., printed in various sizes and styles of type. Thumb sized chip to left margin, not affecting text. This performance, presumably referencing Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "Hiawatha" published in November 1855, mentions the poem's heroine Minnehaha [here spelled with only one "n"]. The popularity of the work spawned many musical and artistic adaptations. In Longfellow's poem her character was depicted as a Dakota, living along the shore of Lake Superior, however, not as a Penobscot. We have been unable to determine where this broadside was published.

Small chip at top of spine, several tears with folds on edge of front wrapper. From the preface: "This pamphlet is designed, chiefly, for the use of farmers and mechanics, whose facilities for surveying wood and lumber are frequently limited to a measuring stick of their own manufacture, and a pencil." OCLC locates a single copy at the Clements Library.

(Cinncinnati, OH): The railway, 1878. Map, timetable, and promotional. Broadsheet on light brown paper, 13 x 27 inches, folded to 16mo, recto with 16 panels of timetables and ads, verso printing a "Map of the Great Air Line route, Ohio & Mississippi Railway and Connections." The map shows the existing and proposed railway line from the Midwest, centering on Cincinnati, to St. Louis, and from there, south to Texas, west through Kansas to Dakota, and north to St. Paul, advertising "Only 12 Hours from Cincinnati to St. Louis! Elegant Day Coaches and Parlor Cars on Day Trains. Pullman Sleeping Cars on Night Trains from Cincinnati to St. Louis! Without change"; "Trains are run by Vincennes Time, which is 12 minutes slower than Cincinnati Time." Oval stamp of the Land and Emigration Agent Henry H. Adams Herd 211: "A scarce collection of true stories, first printed in various magazines, dealing with the rough life of the cowman and peace officers of northern Arizona." Merrill Aristocrat. Original green cloth (front hinge starting, some wear to edges), gilt spine title. Remnants of glue on rear board, but a good solid copy, inscribed by the author.

Large engraved bookplates of Johann & Dora Kruse in each volume; Kruse (1859-1927) was an Australian violinist and conductor. Later red three-quarter morocco and marbled boards (corners rubbed), gilt titles, by J. & E. Bumpus, Oxford. Scattered light foxing, but a very good copy in an attractive binding.

Cincinnati, (OH): Georgia-Alabama Investment and Development Co. (From the Covington, Ky., Commonwealth, September 2, 1891), 1891. Printed broadside, 18 1/2 x 8 inches, employing bold display types for head and publication information. An enthusiastic promotional for the development of Tallapoosa, Georgia, in Haralson County, near the Georgia-Alabama border; the project ultimately succumbed to a classic investment bubble, with investors eventually losing large sums of money. OCLC locates one copy (Duke). Folded; uniformly browned, one closed tear at right margin, slightly affecting a letter or two, repaired on verso; upper left corner torn, repaired on verso. (#5002).

Illustrated from photographs, two maps, one a road map of Florida, the other a street map of Tampa, with a key to places of interest. OCLC locates two copies (Tampa Bay History Center, S. Florida). Original illustrated wrappers, stapled. Very good.

N.P.: Tampa Chamber of Commerce, 1939. Single sheet, measuring 12 x 18 in., folded into six panels. Glossy orange & black photo illus. promotional brochure. "Tampa has everything for industry." Ad for the upcoming Pan-American Hernando de Soto Exposition to be held in Tampa in early 1939, on one panel. Very good.

Original cartoon drawing, 53 x 49 cm., on stiff card stock, signed by Bishop. Image depicts a large flag, with a single star in the middle [a Communist flag?] drapped over the world, a lone soldier standing on top of the globe playing taps with his trumpet. Remnants of cello and paper tape on verso. Bishop was born in Keokuk, Iowa. He worked at the Portland Journal as a cartoonist from 1925-29, and the St. Louis Star and Star-Times as an editorial cartoonist, 1929-51, after which he free lanced.
