Description:
Los Angeles: Sci-Arc, 1995. First printing. Sewn into wood boards. Fine. (35) pp., square 16mo. Publication number 6 in the Public Access Press series sponsored by the Southern California Institute of Architecture. An innovative artist's book, with ten color photographs ("moments") taken in France, Turkey, and Los Angeles by Mackler, and book design by Berssen. Each of the ten original photographic prints is tipped onto a page of extremely thin, flexible wood veneer; each photo is preceded by first a structural graphic image on architectural vellum, and then a brief typewritten text on tissue; the title page, prefatory text, list of images, and colophon are also typewritten on wood veneer. The whole is sewn onto cords and bound into painted wood covers, in an edition of one hundred numbered copies. A fine copy of a striking and idiosyncratic production.

Description:
Prairie City, IL: Press of James A. Decker, 1947. First printing. 178 pp., 5.25 x 8 inches. Cloth over boards. Light wear to extremities of cloth, rubbing to cover and spine lettering; tasteful bookplate on front pastedown and age-toning to page edges, otherwise very good. Flannery OÂ’Connor's first book appearance, a short story published while she was a student at the University of Iowa, after a handful of magazine appearances in the year or two preceding. The story appears on pages 113-124 of an anthology edited by Alan Swallow. The cover and spine give the title as “New Signatures 1948” and the halftitle as “American Signatures”; Swallow (then at the University of Denver) contributes an introduction. The collection includes early appearances by John Hollander and Warren Miller as well. The Decker Press is best known for having published the first books of Louis Zukofsky, Lorine Niedecker, and others, though is also notorious for the sensational ending of the enterprise. This, like many…

Ithaca, NY: Epoch Associates, 1960. First printing. 64 pp., 6 x 9 inches. Saddle-stapled into printed card covers. Pages numbered continuously through each volume; in this instance constituting pages 67-128 of Volume X. Slight age-toning and soiling to edges of covers, and a tiny bump to the lower corner, still a fine, bright copy. Don DeLilloÂ’s first appearance in print, a short story, in a literary quarterly published by the Cornell University English Department, where it occupies pages 105-120, preceding his first novel by eleven years. Editors of the magazine at the time included Morris Bishop, James McConkey, and Forrest Read. Extremely scarce, especially in collectible condition.

Originally published in 1980 by the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, in conjunction with the exhibition Robert Wilson: From a Theater of Images; reissued in 1984 in paper and cloth by Harper & Row. With texts by John Rockwell, Calvin Tomkins, Robert Stearns, and Laurence Shyer.
