Description:
A typical novel of Schmitz's Federation series: fast-paced and very enjoyable. Torquil published books for the SF Book Club, mostly: they did a few copies with a trade dust-jacket. Currey lists the first trade edition as having a printing code D6 on page 206, a rubber-stamped price on the upper corner of the front jacket flap, and the lower flap cut: this copy fits that description. There are also copies with a printed price of $3.50 -- both trade editions are exceedingly scarce. This copy is tight and clean, and appears unread: the jacket's spine is age-darkened and has a few small chips missing and some small tears (see photo). The bottom edge of the boards shows some wear. Scarce copy of the trade edition. The jacket lists the title as "A Tale of 2 Clocks" -- everything on the book lists it as "A Tale of Two Clocks." I've chosen to go with spelling out the number rather than using the numeral.

Description:
Copy inscribed by de Camp to Chicago area fan Ben Solon. Dust jacket is very close to complete, but badly torn (all tears closed) with minor chipping and tape on the back cover. Pix available on request. This copy has orange printing for the spine information: there are copies with gold printing.i presume the gold printing is an earlier state because it was more expensive. The book has bumped corners, but is tight and solid. The jacket has been placed in a new protector, and it presents far better than this description would indicate. One of the best humorous books of SF/fantasy.

Description:
Introduction by Clemence Dane. Three stories with mild fantastic elements by a peculiar novelist. Mentioned in Bleiler. Yellow buckram, gold titling, t.e.g., no dustjacket or slipcase. The rear fold for the dustjacket is still present, with a bit of its original glassine -- no text on it. Signed on limitation page by Houghton, who truncated his full name (Claude Houghton Oldfield) for his fiction. A very nice production, in fine condition with the spine bottom slightly dented -- pencil notes of former seller on front pastedown. Spine reads upwards, in British fashion. Uncommon.

Description:
London: W. H. Allen, 1970. First UK edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/good. Presentation copy of Gores' first novel, a rather gripping hard-boiled tale of revenge. Inscribed to (according to friends) Gores' agent at the time: "Art -- Since you're hung up on hardcovers, here," a note pointing out where "the sex-stuff" is in the book, "Enjoy ... enjoy/Joe, Oct '71". A very warm and personal inscription on the book that started a major career in modern hard-boiled mysteries, Book is very clean, with slight spine bumping; dustjacket is worn on the edges, with a noticeable closed tear at the upper left corner of the front panel, about 1cm in length, and two whitened rubbed patches about 1mm round on the left edge of the front panel. Winner of the Edgar for Best First Novel in 1970. A very nice associational copy of an important book. Gores died early in 2011.

Description:
McHugh's exceedingly scarce first novel. At the time of listing this, I can find no other copies of this title online. McHugh is known for several later works including I Am Thinking of My Darling, a novel about a plague of happiness striking NY; Caleb Catlum's America, which Robert Heinlein claimed was one of his inspirations for Time Enough for Love; and poetry, both his own and translated from the Chinese. This book is near fine, with a good condition jacket which is slightly frayed, taped in several places and slightly discolored on the spine. The jacket presents well. There is slight fading of the cloth on the top edge, and the spine is bumped. See pictures. Previous owner's discreet inscription on FFE. More pictures available on request: I'm running into a glitch in the uploading process for the pictures.
