A history, both formal and personal, of the Children's Home of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, written by a former resident of the Home. In the aftermath of the Civil War and a series of smallpox epidemics, there were many orphans on Maryland's Eastern Shore. A group of local citizens decided to open an orphanage, and in 1871 the Children's Home of the Eastern Shore opened its doors. Nine year old Polly Ross became a resident at the Children's Home in 1925, along with her younger sister. This book is a loving memoir of her experiences there, and a well-researched history of the institution as well, published just two years after it closed for good.
